GAC #11 Pancho villa

#1

Born-
Doroteo Arango in San Juan del Río, Durango, in 1877

bio-
A mexican folk hero/ bandit. spend most of his life avoiding the law. Villa’s Robin Hood story began after he established himself and his bandit followers in the sierras in 1900. Officially, the years 1900-09 are “unaccounted for,” but it was during this period that he became a legendary hero to the poor for skillfully evading the Porfiriato’s oppressive rurales. In 1910 Villa and his men came down from the hills to join Francisco I. Madero’s revolutionary forces, thereby making a historical transition from bandidos to revolucionarios. The charismatic figure was able to recruit an army of thousands, including a substantial number of Americans, some of whom were made captains in the División del Norte. Villa even created one squadron made up entirely of Americans under the leadership of Capt. Tracey Richardson, a man who apparently fought with many different insurgent armies around the world at that time.

Villa’s forces were based in Chihuahua, where Villa ruled over northern Mexico like a medieval warlord. Villa financed his army by stealing from the endless cattle herds in northern Mexico and selling beeves north of the border, where he found plenty of U.S. merchants willing to sell him guns and ammunition. Faced with a stagnant economy, he issued his own money; if merchants refused to take it, they risked being shot. Executions, which Villa often ordered on a whim, were usually left to his friend Rodolfo Fierro, best known by his nickname “El Carnicero” (“the Butcher”). In true Robin Hood style, he broke up the vast land holdings of local hacendados and parceled them out to the widows and orphans of his fallen soldiers.

Today Villa is remembered with pride by most Mexicans for having led the most important military campaigns of the constitutionalist revolution, in which his troops were victorious as far south as Zacatecas and Mexico City, east as far as Tampico, and west as far as Casas Grandes. Because of Villa’s Columbus escapade and subsequent evasion of U.S. troops, he is also often cited as the only foreign military personage ever to have “successfully” invaded continental U.S. territory

some quick concepts here. I think I’m leading more towards this sketch. Ill play with this Idea more. basically I want him to be a weapon type of fighter. like kabal from mortal kombat. He will utilize rifles, a sword, revolvers, grenedes, dynamite. his hand to hand combat style will be no style, fluid, like water, or beer… I guess, but he will mostly rely on his weapons, blunt strikes, pistol whiping shooting and blowing up stuff and shit like that.

I was thinking that for his special attacks, him being a general and all, will summon artillery attacks from his troops near by. other moves could probably be a stampeed of sword wielding cavelry . some little ideas I though I’d share.

heres another concept. Ill post more soon, some weaponry and stuff.

#5

this is what I’m going for here. I exagerated his shape a bit. after all it is a fighting game
his normal looking self would suck I also included is prized fighting cock in the backround, “EL RAYO NEGRO”. he might have to attack with his razor sharp fighting spurs If his master is gettign his ass kicked

but yeah this is it, need a color study next, then Ill start the modeling process. feedback, critiques welcome of course.

nice character lordmachuca. and your concept artwork is really great. looking forward to watching this guy develop.

cheers

#7

I got started on the head. heres the basic shape.
critiques welcome.

#8

heres the another update. did alittle detail on the eyes and added his sombrero

#9

alittle update here. I changed up his face alittle. poly count as of right now is 7015.
I still have to model
-two revolvers
-a rifle
-shotgun
-the holsters

  • spurs
and a few other details here and there.

#10

acouple more updates here. tweak the face a little more, added the holsteres for the guns, the sash, and the ammo bag. Added a little detail to his jacket

I’m gonna have roughly about 4500 to 5000 tris for the weaponry and other Items.
I’m looking at 3 revolvers, 2 same one is different
-2 rifles, both different
-sawn of shotgun
-dynamite
-hunting knife
-cigar
his fighting is going to consist of weaponry if you haven’t guessed.

critiques welcome

#12

yeah i gotta say this is def. one of my fav. entries. you definately did this bad ass justice.

#13

Awesome!, cant wait to see the finished product.

#14

here’s the concept for his guns, I’m sketching up the rifles and the shotgun now
and a few other items, dynamite… and other things that I cant think of at the moment.
I think I have alittle over 6000 polygons for the weapons and Items.

#15

I love those Gun sketches.

They remind me of the guns in Red Dead revolver.

#16

hey I got a generic question: why do so many ppl use the grey background for concepts? And also were those sketches done digitally or scanned?

nice guns tho, I can tell you really thought about the style of them…very nice.

#17

there done in photoshop. the grey is used for backrounds because its a neutral color,
always use a neutral backround color, grey, beige, almost anything desaturated. it makes the color values stand out i guess…

heres the rifles

#18

In your reference images it looks like his hat should be a little curved in some places. Your model looks extremely well balanced though…I really like it

#19

wicked!, alot has been going by me lately… update soon plz

#20

here’s the guns, Still have a few details here and there. bullets on the belts and other shit… tommorrow I’m gonna finish mapping everything and texture the rest of the time.
together the guns come in at 2588.
