G5's imoprting Illus files

#1

Hi all,

I am helping a fellow Wings user get his Illustrator files into Wings, so far he simply can’t. He is using a G5, and saving them as v.8 files on a different drive that Panther is on (I believe), but I don’t see how that would affect it.

All I do with his files that he sends is open resave and import into Wings, works perfectly for me.

Is this something that has to do with G5’s in general?!? So far, I have really only heard about problems with Panther, and unless you actually have a G5, I don’t see any reason to upgrade a G4…?

Can someone that has a G5 test this out on their system?

And lastly is there any news about the Wings site?

Thanks!

If it works on your machine but not the G5, then I would suspect that it is the 64-bit nature of the G5 that is the problem - perhaps some Erlang library routine works incorrectly, or perhaps I made a programming error (somehow assumed 32-bit integers), but that seems somewhat unlikely, as .ai is a text format.

Does the Erlang console window have any illuminating error messages in it after the import fails?

Hi Howard,

Yeah they worked fine on my G4 OS10.2.8.

When he does it, he gets this error-
“no such file or directory”.

Is this because the files are on different drives than the application.

Thanks

It is indeed possible that it is because the files are on different drives than the application. Does the same problem happen if he tries to import a file in some other format (e.g., .obj) from the same place into wings? I would expect so, because I am using the same file browsing dialog and Erlang file opening/reading function that the other importers use. It could be that the file browsing dialog is not passing needed drive information to the importer.

I have a G5 and have not been having trouble getting AI files into Wings…I’d be happy to test some files if someone needs help.
