Actually, yes it’s going to be pretty much exterior matte painting and camera mapping. I’m just starting to work it out in my head and write some stuff down.

I figure I should update with something. Here’s what I’m going for, it’s a rough sketch, trying to find the mood and colors and good mountain shapes.

Can’t wait to put the whole thing into motion, get some snow and blowing trees, camera mapping etc.

the castle painting looks really well done,it would be nice to see some more architecural elements mixed in amongst the ice.
is it photo based or straight painting?..looking forward to the animation

Adding more architectural elements is a good idea, hopefully I’ll have the time to add extra details.

There are a lot of photo elements in the castle, as well as painting.

That looks great. Reminds me of the never ending story for some reason.

The motion of the trees distracts the eye. I think you need to balance the flow of motion in the frame. Maybe add something moving on the other side. Maybe make the fog roll across the fields slowly or something.

Maybe add some flying birds to help define the depth and scale.

The fog is rolling, but I guess I should speed it up a bit. I was thinking of adding a person walking toward the castle entrance.
