I’m going to give this competition a go as it sounds like a lot of fun! It’ll probably be a one shot piece, and something funny, in a similar vein to the films on my website:

It’ll be about a minute to two minutes. I’ll use After Effects, Photoshop and Maya, with some great acting and backplates supplied by myself. I might enlist the help of modellers to supply assets, depending on scope. Otherwise I’ll work on my own

As for story, I’m not sure yet. The strength one sounds fun, picking up unfeasibly heavy objects and chucking them about. That or perhaps a comination of a few superpowers. The film will definitely demonstrate that just because you have super powers doesn’t mean you have the sense to use them very well! Specifically causing myself lots of (simulated) harm. Thank heavens for the invulnerability power!

Welcome and good luck to you, can’t wait to see what you come up with. I considered using the super strength one too—just seems like so much fun to have huge objects lifted and chucked about like nothing.

I’m a little confused by all these deadlines, the impression I get now is that I’ve got until September to get the whole thingy finished, so I can shoot the footage anytime between now and then as long as I give myself enough time for the effects…

… anyway, I did a quick test the other day - a strength test. All right, so it’s a object tracking test in reality, I thought I’d share it to show I have been doing some work on this:

The film’ll be in a similar vein to the other shorts on my site, but with a camera cut to emphasise the size and weight of the object I’m chucking around.

I’ll not be posting much more for a few weeks - I’ve got another film to finish in the meantime!

I’ve been mainly experimenting with automatic 3D object tracking. Although I did a (reasonably) successful test earlier (see above), the tracking markers wouldn’t be visible at the distances I’m using for the long long shot. I’ve therefore decided to only use the object tracking for the closer shot, for the other I will either manually track it by eye or use a simple 2D track.

I’ve scoped out the location I’m going to shoot at too. There are going to be two shots, a closer long shot and a long long shot:

This is what I shall be throwing around, well, I’ll build a CG replica of it anyway:

I’ll probably shoot it early tomorrow morning, sunny weather permitting. Also, I need to decide if I want a story to explain where the superpowers came from or not
