FXWars! THE RACE!: Yann Goument, Contemporary Racing

Man that looks very nice.

The grass could be done better.

What I would do is create a mix between some grass, and dried dead grass. Use a gradient mapped in “object xyz” to blend between the two grass. So that at the top of the hill its different then at road level. Use a little noise as well to mix the two grasses.

This will help define the slops better, and look a little more realistic.

#22

That looks good so far. But what about colour on the track? I relooked at the track and you have marks on the tarmac. Looks good but what about sponser boards? Also what about dirt or race damage on the cars already?

thx guys

for sure many things to do…
you re right for the grass. would really need better surface. and the same for some sponsor…maybe i will have time to make few more layers, but for now dont even know if i will be able to finish it… aghhrrr…

#24

I hope you get to finish. This has some awsome potential. By the way, I saw your website, youuve got some awsome work up there.

#25

so, after a week end rendering all i can, i think i will be off for this fxwar…
i will try to render the last layers in the evening after work(if the render i have send this morning are finish…) but think will be too late…
so, no secrets, the time i loose in the middle is the time i need now… think i need few days again to really finish all i want to have a “correct” animation(even if i made many error everywhere! )

anyway, hope many people will be able to post their final animation tonight.

@Arrrgh4life : thx man. for the awesome potential, i’m really not sure, as i have many error on models, surfacing, alpha render etc…

ps: i like me too those mirrors…

#26

It wouldn’t be the same contest if you didn’t enter. :frowning:

You have until midnight. I hope that’s enough time.

#27

arf, so, im definitively off for this one.
that take way longer than i though for the render of this day, and i always doesnt have all the smoke/part effect at the end, not all the track rendered etc…
so off for me!

bad management of my time for sure…will be better for the next one(i hope… )
good luck for all the people who have it done!

#28

FXWARS: OK people talk to me, One more week?

-R

#29

please please post your final when u have complete. i will see the nice animation, please ;).

#30

so, with this bonus week, i will finally see the end… soon
so, i need to render the wheels, add the smoke effect and think will be ok…
some preview, wip!

#31

Those look great.

On the section shot you should come in closer and show off the cars. They look great.

The smoke looks a little buffy. I find that kind of smoke effect in Max very hard to do right.

#32

arf yeah those smoke effect are hard to do, and its the first time i use afterburn… i have worked on them a little, so will be a little bit better i think.
for the shot, its so long to rendering that i will try to finish this time before re-make all

#33

I will second that.
as I told my ex, if you got it, show it.

I’m thinking that the reason it takes so long to render is that you have this very large open area, and are trying to detail these smaller objects in that area.

Most GI renders have a hard time doing that.

Maybe split it into different layers. Using one set of GI for the background, and another for the cars.

#35

RobertoOrtiz: hehe yes that right… arf, give us 2 more weeks??..

mustan9:

Maybe split it into different layers. Using one set of GI for the background, and another for the cars.

yes i have…
here s the shake…

so many layer, for a so poor result… arf, 3d is hard!

#36

I think it may be the stadium and trees.

Give the LOD Utility in 3D Studio Max a try.

#37

mustan9> yeah, but will be for the next fxwar…

so , for now, im happy to finally finish it, with many error and no motion blur(no renderfarm at home)…
