FXWARS: THE RACE!: Volker Römer

Hi,

it's going to be a vintage rallye scene. A Renault A 110 looses control after crossing a small hill.
I started the animation, here it is so far:

I think, i'm adding a second car rushing by after the crash. There is going to be a lot of dust and dirt flying around.
I modeled the car some time ago, for this challenge it needs some more modeling on the bottom.
All be done in C4d.

Looking great so far. Your secondary action on the car, in the ditch, looks a bit choppy but nice work. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with C4D.

Good Work so far.
Since it is a race, I would add another car, following the wreked car, avoiding it.

Adding a second car for races sake was a good point.
So i did, at the moment i’m working on the timing, but here is a preview:

The Mini Cooper is taken from “Taschen 500 3D-Objects”. What a crappy mesh :-(( , needs some work.

I’m not sure about avoiding or running into the A 110, maybe just a slight touching.

The tiremarks are textures (with alpha-channel) and an animated projection size.

You know it looks to me that the jump over the top of the hill isn’t right. Are you animating from a reference video?

It’s just the way the front end of the car suddenly drops down. That needs to be smoothed out, because it looks a little cartoony in motion. They are also hanging in the air almost like they are flying in a straight line.

The landing doesn’t look to me like a hard hit. Can you give it more of a slam down and a little more roll in the body.

Also when he comes over the hill he lands in the middle of the road. Try placing the car more to the right side of the screen, and then he over corrects which causes him to loose control.

Wow, not sure how I missed this one :slight_smile:

Looks good so far, aside from the stuff already mentioned. The hand-held feel to camera is very convincing, might just need a little tweaking at the end.

Yesss you are right, the jump needs some tweaking.

I am using a reference video and actually the real car does drop that sudden, of course it’s a totally different car, maybe that’s the clue why it is not looking real - but who cares if it is real, should be convincing :slight_smile:

I’m glad the camera motion comes kind of real, wasn’t the easiest part …

Yea I could tell your using a reference video. The animation looks off because you don’t have a reference from the side. Spend some time previewing some animations from the side, and make sure the motion looks natural.

wow, looking really nice! i dont know if you fixed it but the last few frames from one of your previous postings looks a little strange for the blue car… it shoots back rather suddenly, other that that its coming alson really nicely! congrats!:thumbsup:

I fixed that, wasn’t lucky with it neither.

Now i’m into particles, added some dirt-particles and a dirt-track to the Mini-Cooper, added dust to the Renault.

Here is a composed frame, well it’s in progress …

As i post it, i think the dust got too much red in it, hmmm.

Very cool! Coming along nicely.

Yet another person way ahead of me! Good inspiration though. Seeing your stuff was one of the reasons I remade my model. Felt I had to crank the quality up a notch to keep up! :smiley:

Just a comment on the animation … It would be nice to see the red car swerve a little more (maybe a slight tilt) when he nearly escapes crashing into the guy ahead of him. I think that would also help portray the weight of the car a little better. Right now It seems he just goes straight and damn the one who comes in his way! hehe
