Fxwars! The Race: Mdillender

#1

I’m going to try a bit of a futuristic race that occurs along a river. something along the order of hovering race vehicles (just a few) that are shooting some spray and/or causing ripples with one of them flipping or a dive/crash into the water.

Probably biting off more than I can chew on this one.

Going out to get some live river footage and then comping some racers into it.

My goal is to get better at lightwave hypervoxels and compositing with combustion. Won’t spend a lot of time on the modeling part. Something simple, sleek and low riding.

Best of luck to all.

What I’ve done so far is to

  1. Shoot and choose the live footage I’ll be using. The Delaware river over by Philadelphia.
  2. Do a simple model, no texturing yet
  3. Start doing some matchmove and comp tests.

I haven’t yet.

  1. Modeled second racer
  2. Textured
  3. Performed additional render passes (shadow, GI etc).
  4. created/edited or found sound that will go along with this.

Here is a link to a quicktime comp I did for testing.

Crits and ideas are welcome.

I’d like to see the boat bigger and closer, I know that a racer probably wouldn’t get closer but better for us to see more of your work

I second what has been said…

Here is a video example ofa boat race crash:

Thanks for the comments. I’d have to say I agree that if I bring it in closer, it would look better. But, it would also show more of my flaws!

Reworking the model now, but don’t wont to spend too much time on it. Really want to spend time in vfx.

Thanks,

Martin
