OK going to have a go at this too, its going to be scifi vehicles, probably the same one cloned
racing through a rocky landscape
FXWARS! THE RACE: LightFreeze
First test to see how the landscape is looking and to get a quick idea of how fast I want the racers to go, the faster the better I think. The hollow the racer goes down is set by a displacement map so I hope to reuse the whole setup for different scenes and just change the displacement map for different looks, we shall see
:bounce: Looks good, but here are a couple of things I noticed.
Your rocket flames don’t look shaped correctly. Rockets don’t tent to blast out like a triangle shape. They have a curve shape to them that based upon the pressure of the air and the blast of the rocket.
The shadows on the ground have a gap from the ship to the smoke trail. Add some light sources to represent the rocket flames.
The motion of the red ship could use some touching up.
Thanks for the comments,
the rocket blasts are HV lights, hence the triangular shape, Ill see if I can figure a way to make them more realistic without going down the particles/volumetric route because its a big time saver but thinking about it they wont work well for tight curves either or the crash so maybe Im stuck with particles /HV`s
the smoke trail is supposed to be dust coming off the ground, I meant to have a puff coming up as the blue skims the ground to re-enforce that but havent done it yet.Have to see how it looks then Ill decide if its confusing the way it is now
my initial thought was to have the red always flying smooth and the blue more erratic as if he was a beginner or something but maybe that takes away some dynamism
stuff to ponder? thanks again
I’ve done rocket flames on jets before, and my approach was geometry. You shape layers of geometry in the shape of the flames you want. Then apply a gradient procedural texture with an additive transparent material.
It will look much better then anything you can do with particles, and it will render very quickly.
Tried again with voxel lights for the engine jets, I`m thinking its good to go with this setup because I need to get started on the crash stuff because its just gonna eat my time up

OK finally got it finished, couple of glitches in it but I`m happy DivX6 required

Nice entry.
Dont forget to post an 800x 600 title card of your entry for the voting thread.

FXWARS: OK people talk to me, One more week?
But it will be noted that you finished your project BY THE DATELINE.

Final entry II divX6 required, QT later
managed to add a little here and there, There is a title pic on a previous post Roberto
