FXWARS! THE RACE: Jeremy Massey

#1

Hey all,

Well, this will be my very first competition on CGTalk, and also my first real go at rigid modeling (I usually do characters). I couldn’t decide whether to do an old 1930’s Grand Prix race, or a futuristic race, so I figured, why not both?

Here’s the vehicle so far. About 4 hours in. Still LOADS more work to do (As you can probably see) Namely on the interior and the engines (Including connecting them, lol) The main body is based on an old style race car, with a few additions.

I’m not sure whether I’ll have time to finish by the deadline, however I definately plan to finish this to use in my showreel, whether I make it by the deadline or not…

There will be a few of these racing down a futuristic tunnel, with one getting bumped by another and having an engine fail, causing it to spiral into one of the walls of the tunnel. If I’m going ok for time I may have some of the schrapnel take out one of the other vehicles behind it…

Hope you all like it, crits and comments very much appreciated!

Hey all,

Small update. Engines hooked up. Need to do a little more work on the engine, then it’s onto the cockpit interior. After that I’ll be working on the character, then the environment. Yikes! So much to do! :scream:

Nice work so far,

But I have to echo what has been already said…

Hey,

hehe Yeah, I have a tendency to go overboard sometimes, but this shouldn’t actually be too bad. Here’s a shot of the vehicle, which is pretty much finished, and a WIP shot of the pilot character. Still quite a bit more work to do on the character before rigging it, along with the vehilce. I covered up the pilots face, so I only have to model and rig one, then just use it as all the characters, plus there will be no need for facial animation this way. Next comes the environment, which should be pretty quick to model and light, as it’s pretty much just a tunnel with some pipes and other junk sticking out from the walls…

Hope you all like, and thanks for all the great feedback so far!

Hey all,

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here, been really busy with some other work, but I have managed to get a little done here and there, and this job I’m working on will be finished in a few days, then I can get back into it!

Here’s a small test render, mostly to test the vehicle rig, which is all but finished, along with the character rig. Been doing a bit on the environment, but not much to show yet…

That looks very good. I really like the style.

The characters face looks incomplete. Is he wearing a face mask or is that just part of your style.

Hey,

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, he’s wearing a mask. If I get time I’ll texture the character, but I’m more interested in getting all the modeling, animation and fx done. I’ll see…
