FXWARS! SUPERPOWERS!: David Schoneveld, Daniel Sunwoo + Team (The Brute)

David, the fire is looking excellent; the only thing that bothers me about it at all is how off-white it is around his arm and hand, just seems like a strange fire color. I do like how you have it crawling around on his arm.

Ooh, maybe you should have is right sleeve singed from the heat… now who is being picky.

Keep it up, I can’t wait to see your final piece!

OMG!.. wow and that’s a playblast  I have to work more my shot now…

I like the Flame in the hand, dont like to much in the forearm, well in the PlayBlast, maybe in render could look ok.

I have two Q.

  1. What resolution are you using?, that PlayBlast look awesome.
  2. How do you get that flame movement?, its swirl and turbulence?

Velk, yeah the colors are not right at all, that’s got to change, actually I’m letting Daniel decide on the final colors in comp. I like the way you’re thinking with the burned sleve, I just wanted to do fx that don’t carry over to the rest of the shots, like the flames can just stop and the the next shot is done too.

Dan, that’s 3 2d fluid containers, I use them to get the general speed and rough in the settings, then I’ll make one of them 3d and delete the others. the rez is 150x225. I’m useing swirl of 4 and temp turblulence of 2. I don’t use the turbulence turbulence in the fluid much, I prefer the temp turbulence. There are no magic numbers, but those are the settings I play with. it’s all about balance of values across the board from emission to resolution, dissipation, bouancy etc. like if I take someone from works fluyid container they never set the settings like I like and it is hard to get a good look from someone eles work, not sure why. they could have just one setting that you haven’t checked that changes the whole look.

When I make it 3d there are a hand full of settings that change b/c the 2d fluid doesn’t let any fluid “leak” out the z, where in 3d it leaks in every direction. so somehtings will look bertter others worse, we’ll see how goo dI can make it look.

That fire looks cool.

I think the fire animation could use more energy. Right now it looks like his hand is covered in gas, and someone lit it. Which is cool, but I think your trying to go for more of a super-power effect. You may want to have something that looks more like his hands are pushing the fire to burn hotter, and harder. The flames look to me to be moving to slow, and the up draft of hot air is to slow as well.

Also, it should have more travel to it, from the hands to the elbo.

I like it, keep it up.

I dont like much the speed maibe low the Damp attribute or more buoyancy Im not sure.

The flame look I love it, can see the flame comming from the fingers, good one . The forearm Im getting the same issue on my new WIP, hope one of us can find how to solve that.

Im getting back to work on my shot again.

Good Luck.

welp, I guess some of you wonder what happened to my entry… yeah it’s been a crazy month. I left Luma to work on Eragon at CafeFX, to immediate overtime. Over the last few weeks I’ve been able to touch my personal computer for a mear hour or two. I tried a few times to get sometime together but just couldn’t do it inaddition to research and testing that i do at home for Eragon. The main companies working on it are ILM and Weta so I really wanted to do a good job on the fx I’m assigned. I’ll tell you guys more after it comes out this christmas.
Basically I’m working on making the main bad guy magic of disappearing, pretty cool shots. Anyway I have to get back to it. I’ll post what I have for my challenge entry for this challenge when I get back to my computer, maybe this weekend. (too late for voting but for those who’d like to see where I was)

good luck to all.

PS here’s a link to the movie trailer!
