Hi guys, Im in!.

I will work on “The Brute” footage filmed by David Schoneveld & Daniel Sunwoo.

I dont think that I will do all The StoryBoard, maybe some key shots like “PlayBall”, also Im doing some test for the CG-Fire-Monster.

Here is a 5 minutes Work test for the shot “PlayBall”.

http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/116802/CGtalk/playBall_testVFx.mov

Need more work, and do some ColorCorrect to simulate the flame illumination over the actor… but in this Test Im looking for how looks the Camera Position and the Setup for the CGArms.

Im using Particles to create a first pass Fx to simulate some ignition, then I think I’ll use Fluids to simulate the Flames. I will use Blue Flames a la King Of Fighters game.

Another day, another test. This time with Maya Fluids.

That’s awesome! Haha, I love it. I love that you made it blue too, a little homage to Hell boy. One of the guy who worked on that is a friend of mine and I meantioned I’m/ we’re doing this, he laughed b/c it was a huge pain for them. They didn’t have the freedom we have so I think we’ll have more fun.
So some help for you on the fire, raise the disipation a little, and the opacity graph should look like this:

| |\
|_| ______|
_^
the key is this sharp rise, to get the inside edge of the flame harder the faster it dropps of on the slope the harder the outside will be. then it will be about fine tune tweeking of the opacity imput bias. looking cool, I like the timing.

#5

Thanks Dave!, I will try it , about the timming I like it to, I do a very lowres voxels to calculate the timming then I raise the resolution to start working on the Fluid Shape.

For my today Test I’ll work on the tips you gave me.

Here is another Update, thanks Dave (destruct007) for the tips.

I do some ColorCorrection over the Footage in this version.

Critics are wellcome

just out of curiosity, to see if I’m right, is your fluid container 20x40x20? no notes on that persay, altho flames look better the higher the rez, altho just changing the rez changes the whole sim. I like the lighting you did, that’s cool it seems to come on too late tho. looking pretty cool, I think you’ll have a nice shot after this.

oh, and I’d say the flames are a tad slow, that could also be a stylalised thing, so it’s up to you.

#8

That was close, my fluid container is 30xx45x30 (Size and Resolution), I must go for a higher resolution cause in some frames of the simulation can see the voxels, hahahaha one thing to fix, Fix N°1.

The lighting its a Test I did, and you’re right it come to late, Fix N°2, I think that I’ll have a nice shot soon to.

about the speed of the flames, I like it slow, but I´ll do Fix N°1 and N°2 then test with more faster flames and see what I get.

Thanks for your Critics!

Here is Version 4 of the Flames.

ftp://201.243.99.98/powerdan/ [DOWN], please use the Mirror one, hosted in MyFilehut

[EDIT]

That’s lookin sweet! What I did was to dup the geometry and cut off the arm in one, so I have doubled up hands area emission, then I got a little more going at the top then at the bottom, you’ve really got somethng that’s going to be cool! I’ll probably not get my test up until next week, so I’ll have a lot of ground to cover

I’d say you’re next biggest issue will be compositing it, you’ll want to see the hands and the fire, so it will be something that will be juuust the right amount of each. Also look at hell boy’s color timeing I think it will help get your fx to blend in if the footage is a little more bleak. I know you’re not quite at the comping phase (well you are now) so these are just some ideas for you.

Hey Powerdan,

I’m still downloading the video (dial-up), but it sounds good. This is similar to what I am doing for a music video for the band Overdose Of Hatred. But I have to light whole bodies on fire. For all the band members and there is five of them. So unfortunatley I have to hand track a 3d figure to their boddies to use as an emmiter for the fire. Do you have any tips?

Daniel,

Well Im using 3D Arms (made by Destruct007 and tracked by me) for Fluid emmision in Autodesk’s Maya.

Tips:
For the tracking: I think with a nice tracking (not to be perfect) will work, because you will hide the emmiter surface, and the objetive its to the Fx looks cool with the video.

Most of the work can be done in Compossite, after you get a nice & cool flames in your 3D environment you can fix and get a more cooler look working in compossite software like AfterFx or Fusion, add more transparency or adjust Brightness.

If you are going to use Maya Fluids, dont render with a PRODUCTION QUALITY, the fluids in Maya looks very good in preview quality, Production Quality dont affect the fluids, in my oppinion, to get better fluids you must use fluids Attributes like resolution, Voxel quality etc.

I learn a lot of fluids with Alias (now Autodesk) Fluid DVD and with the David S., Gnomon Fluids DVD’s. if you can get those they can help a lot, also here its David S. (Destruct007) he can help you much more.

if I get more tips during these project I’ll post it here.

New Version, this time its Ver. 4.5, Why? because I dont fix anything in 3D env. I only do some fixes on composite, enjoy.

Thanks for the tips. I’m actually using 3Ds Max 8 and Pheonix 1.5. So it should look good, the only problem is the tracking. I have access to SynthEyes, but iIve never used it before.
