One thing that bothers me is that the ride is really bumpy!
I can already see people vomiting,
But, the animation/ride animation is very cool! Keep up the good work! ![]()

hehe yeah, it could be call the “big loops”…

I think you are probably overthinking this and trying to make a simulation of a rollercoaster instead of making an animation of a rollercoaster
is it not the challenge, make simulation???
think im not overthinkin’ it… its a simulation… gravity, friction, speed and inertia…
This would be very difficult if not impossible in LW. The dynamics are just not robust enough.
hmm, but seems that works for me no?
i only push the wagon at the beginnin’, and gravity make the rest.
for sure many problems, but hey!, after few hours on it… and for sure will be deleted soon.
Don’t base your dynamics off your full track geometry. Use ‘Make Path’ to lock it to your more complex geometry
i add the “more complex” geometry only for the preview… maybe im stupid but…
One problem I see with your track. How does the rollercoaster get back to the top?
lol!
Its looking really good, but that first drop is going to push so much blood to the head that people prolly won’t be awake for the rest of the ride, they will pass out. You should twist the track on the way down so that that car is on top when it gets near the bottom.
No. The challenge is to make an animation of a rollercoaster with dynamics. It does not need to be a simulation. A small difference in words but a big difference in the end. Sorry, I didn’t understand when you asked for tips that you didn’t want any.
ok here is there are two approaches on how to do this.
a) complete simulation for the whole animation
b) scene BY scene animation.
because of the complexity of the animation ill allow both kind of entries, but please state what kind of approach you are doing. Of course the key for both is simulation.
-R
quick render test with “on board” cam with motion blur to see how that looks.
track length for now is 916 meters. all gravity based, but only for one wagon…
wip…

WOW!
Looks very cool, i cant wait for the next update!
I wish i knew how to do that! LOL
so, think i have finish the track. i dont have twist things or such, but due to time consuming calcul, think i will stay on this one who works…
lenght of the track now is 1.2km. and takes 1.30 hours to run simulation with 1400 frames.
gravity dynamics for the first wagon, follower for the other.
the preview of what i have for now.
wip

Very Nice! How did you get the camera to invert through the loop without any gimble issues?

for the gimbal lock question, no problems as i just attach the camera to the first car, so that just follow the dynamics motion.
anyway, thx for the comments. and really need to find time to work on it, as i dont work since the last preview…
arf, where is the time!?
Hi, nice animation
It seems that your tracks are uneven…sometimes one track has a bump and the other one not…
so, i cant finish this, as i dont have time since few weeks to work on it…
so will post the last preview as my “not finish, not rendered so not really” final entry for this rollercoaster contest
sorry for the bad preview…
so heres it it, http://perso.wanadoo.fr/yann.goument/perso/rollercoaster/YannGoument_FXWARS_ROLLERCOASTER.mov (12 Mo)
so as explain before, full dynamic simulation for the first wagon, full gravity based, simulation run from the beginning to the end without cut.
and a follower for the other wagon and voila
Dood that is too cool. I would really like to know how u did that. I use 3ds max and i was tottaly lost on what solution to go about for a dynamics simulation.
not to bad, not to bad at all. It doesnt seem to slow down and speed up as much as it should. but maybe that because you only simulated one car and the rest follow.
depleteD - Reactor worked very well for me, have you tried using that? I think someone else used particals, but I dont remember how it turned out.
yeah you re right Sir_Vuclan, i think like you. for sure a multiple wagon simulation will have better motion.
i never found a good way to attach other wagon, anyway not “easy and fast” solution.
Looks fun!
I like the fact that from the riders view, you have the impression that the rails are flexible and not very strong which adds to the “scared” feeling you get whn going on a roller coaster ride.
Too bad you didn’t have the time to finish it, but it looks good none the less!
