FXWars! Flying Car, Syndicate, Blade Runner, Tribute

#1

Hey Guys,

So this is my first competition on Cgtalk. I have been behind the scenes for some time so I figured I would show what I can do as a generalist.

My goals are to model a realistic “Spinner” from Blade Runner landing on a street (wheel transformations/lighting/volumetrics/pfx). I know there isnt that much time, but as a cinematics artist I’m confident I’ll have something worthy of showing Blade Runner fans.

I think I will go over the rules again, but basically I want to do a 10-15 sec animation.
Assets include the Blade Runner “Spinner” vehicle, an environment that will probably be dark/streetlight, bin and some rubish/smoke… just basic things
Maybe i’ll manage to squeeze in a few surprises.

Blade Runner is by far my no.1 movie and after reading the books I have dreamt of working on another Blade Runner feature film.

Anyway… I’m off to collect my reference.

All the best to the other teams.

I will upload my wip images here over the weekend. So far I stuck just a few things on my blog as its friday night and I need to get some dinner. Don’t you love the feeling when you have motivation to work on something? btw Roberto, well there be a better way to attach wip images?

Hello Syndicate.

Good luck with your entry. I will keep my eye on your thread

#4

good luck with your entry. I’ve never seen blade runner, but from
the sounds of it, I’ll have to. Can’t wait to see your finished work.

I have started to put together WIP images. Seems the only way to post here is to add to your gallery then put a link to it.

I’ll figure it out soon.

#6

Looks promising. Good luck with your project.

It is possible to attach files to your reply, but it works better if you have some webspace somewhere where you can put your images on, and then link them to here.

#7

Good luck with your entry! I really like Blade Runner.Nice theme to!

Best!

Ok so worked on it more during my lunch hour.

Remember to browse my blog for up to date details and easy to read wip.

Cheers.

Another wip shot. This time the back has been worked on. This still needs a lot of tweaking but I got it very close. Again I would like to warn everyone to choose and examine your references carefully :hmm:

Sorry if the images are small… I’ll post some more detailed ones soon.

#10

Ok so the spinner is now officially taking shape.

As always my blog has more comments… I gtg sleep.

feel free to c&c

#11

My apologies to those who didn’t see images. Seems there is an image size limit or something. Anyway its working now. I might have some breakfast and squeeze in an hour of work.

ciao

I didnt get to model much, however I now have a lot more accurate reference… so I resized/repositioned a lot of stuff. I also took some time to figure out the mechanics of it (wheels unfolding etc). Might post the sketches soon.
Started to position the lights and a few misc pieces. Tail bumper is waaayy off as you can see, but thats because I whacked on a quick symmetry after rescale.

More tonight hopefully.

ciao

I figured out that safari is causing problems with images

#13

Start to look great! Keep up the great work!

#14

Ooh this is looking good, don’t think I’ve seen blade runner… looking forward to seeing this all in action.

#15

I have never seen Blade Runner either. I should correct that mistake

Your model looks very cool. Keep up the good work

#16

Now is the best time to see Bladerunner

Go check out the 1080p Final Cut version. Basically Ridley Scotts final version as he intended. Lots of fixes to the film, however it still kept a lot of the original vfx which were stunning for a film of that era.

You can get it on blueray/HD etc.

I will be posting updates soon. Thanks for the kind words

ciao

#17

Looks very good… I only saw it as a kid so my memory is a bit vague about it but you defently nailed the overall shapes.

#18

I’ve had the bluray version for 3 months now, and hadn’t watched it yet. I think I’ll watch it this weekend.

#19

A few updates. Firstly I fixed the windows so its looking a lot better. Still a bit of work on the side windows needed… some vert pushing, but other than that its close. Also I added wheels… fixed the top conning tower thing (whatever its called) and I am now working on the main body pieces. Might work on the underside during lunch.

The Wheels are really simple as I’ll just use textures and maybe model some treads later. I want to get this model ready to test some shaders this weekend.
