I m in for this challange.This is second time i m participating in Fxwars after car crash challange.

ok guys time for some updates!!

here r the few screenshots of first shot.in which UFO get crashed on earth.:smiley:
plz ur comments r welcome.
i used 3ds max 8 and no plugin is used to make smoke and fire.(i wanted to use afterburn but i m not much good with it…also it was taking little much time to render)

well this looks simple.i used pflow to make particle system.
and parray is used for fire trail of UFO.it’s not getting motion blurred where as i have image motion blurred option turned on in parray property.anyone has any idea about it?
why is it not getting motionblurred?

anyway guys these r straight output out of 3ds max.

Hey Jigu, the smoke and fire is lookin good, i’d like to see it in motion!

The photograph looks like it was a daylight picture and darkened afterwards, I dont know if this is true but it is a little distracting… Maybe another picture would be better

thanks guys for ur time on my thread.

doridoz : yes it’s actually high res daylight picture near to wheatfield(so later on my i can show crop circles in wheatfield). i m not gonna post storyboard right now.but wanted to post screenshots as it goes. i actually rerendered whole animation again and also did little post production in combustion to make image a little dark.so it looks like night scene.(but it looks more like evening or early morning scene). and also added camera shacking to still image to make it beliable shot.

i m trying my best for this challange. although my story is cliched so i need to work a more on effects stuff.

camera shacking is added in max.and lowered down brightness and increased contrass in max to make image little darker for night scene.

Very good! Maybe the camera shake should start when the ufo hits the ground, It might get more dramatic impact. Its just a sugestion though, it looks very impressive!

ok here is just a little update!!

first scene descreption : man found some thing UFO kind thing burning in the sky and coming down fast to ground.he views it with his camera as ufo comes down close to ground he tries to runaway and also tries to capture that UFO

Hay man great job!

I saw both footages, the second one (the viewport preview) looks a lot better.

That viewport preview got me thinking - are you using facing plains to creat the smoke trails and all that fire effect? -looks nice!

hey thanks man!!

actually that viewport preview i posted to show camera shacking (as from scene 1 description cameraman is trying to runaway from UFO). it’s done mapping whole movie on plane and using noise controller to camera in 3ds max.

As for UFO fire trail effect, i cloned UFO and pushed its mesh with push modifier and used it as Fire trail emiitter(so fire will cover whole UFO and it will look like ufo is burning) and with lots of around 500% particles(hmm i think around 50000) and with proper lower size and used facing for type of particles. u can get good fire effect by using lots of small size particles.:wink:

And for volumetric smoke i used Geosphere as instant shape.and that explosion is done using PFlow and UFO crash is done using reactor.(with very high friction assigned to both ufo and ground plane to stop the UFO before the camera.)

Here is the second scene of the movie…In which after crash Ufo get sparked and started burning . but i m not still satisfied with it.i wanted to show alien walking away from UFO and entering into farm and being suddenly disappeared.
if anyone wants to help me with alien model or animation.i would really appriciate ur help.

again i didn;t use any plugin. that fire is faked with Geospheres as particle’s geometry.and i also added grass to the scene using pflow.

waiting for ur feedback guys.
should i keep this shot in the movie or not?
next shot will be on crop circles.(yeah i did some tests to make crop circle in 3ds max).

Well for smoke particles.it’s done two way.those dark brown trails r facing particles.and in its material i simply assigned dark brown color for diffuse chennel.and faded the opacity of particle with particle age map.:wink:

and for those volumetric smoke.well if ur system is fast enough to handle lots of particles and with detailed geometry.u can use big geosphere and smalle geosphere scattered over big geosphere.and after putting that scattered object in blobmesh and use that blobmesh shape as in shape instant operator to assign that shape to particle and animate the scale of particle over time.
but u can also use only one geosphere as shape instant operator if ur system is not fast enough.just apply noise modifier over geosphere to displace its shape topology a little irreguler.

And for its material i use nothing just dark brown color sampled from background image.
and used animated smoke map in bump slot with large negative bump value.

well i can say biggest trick is motionblur.to blur the motion of particle that works.

anyway i hope i answered ur question.

little update.

i m trying blade trinity style distinguish effect.i used lots of facing particle for that fire effect around (30000 ) and multiplied to 500 at rendering time.
still working on it.so i m gonna add more particles upto my system can handle.

anyway look at these images.

if anyone wants to help me with alien model and alien animation. u r welcome to do that.and can pm me.coz i modelled the alien in which face looks little cartoon style.one of my friend “sriram” helped me to finish the alien model.but as he is busy with his exams.anyone would like to help me can pm me.
