FXWars! Catapult! (Trebuchet) : Christian Rambow

Hi,

great idea for a challenge. A lot to learn from.

ok heres mine approach so far. I am using Cinema 4D and Dynamics.
A trebuchet with a laaarge spring connected to the ground.
A lil bit Jules Verne like

and two animationtests:

Haha! Awesome concept… but that isn’t really a trebuchet, is it? It’s more like a spring-powered catapult  I’m not an expert on siege weapons or anything, but I though the term “trebuchet” applied to siege weapons that relied on a system of weights to increase their range… might be wrong though

hehe… it is simple… but it looks cool

before you start into your current model too much, you should REALLY look into what a trebuchet really is. What you currently have is a catapult/onager. Trebuchets have a free-floating weighted arm supported on the top of the structure that “flings” (like if you were to use your arm and a sling), as opposed to a basket that “lobs”, like you currently have. The only source of a trebuchet’s energy is gravity – no springs are involved.

Best of luck in the contest!

Was about to say the same thing. This unfortunately isn’t a trebuchet. So, do it for yourself if you want but it breaks the rules. I don’t know if there will be any sort of judging but having a catapult like you have now would certainly disqualify you. Nice design for the catapult though.

oh :argh: thanks for the reminder … i will start a new one then. :banghead:
