FXWars! Bonfire: Hayden Stone

#1

Hey,

Thought I might try this challenge as I have a bit of free time, will probably keep it simple as there’s not a lot of time left on the challenge.
Did a quick scene set up and light test, nothing too fancy.

Here’s my first low res sim of my bonfire. There’s still a lot to work on and right now the scaling is a bit off, but it’s a nice base to start with.

So here is a test frame of what was rendered over the weekend. After seeing it in motion there is quite a few tweaks needed, so will need to push to get this done on time.

Thanks

Am using 3ds max, Vray, FumeFX and then After Effects for a bit of post.
Now to hope my renders get done on time

Ok so here’s my final entry. I enjoyed this challenge and found it quite fun to do.
My processes were pretty simple, used maps to fuel the fire, velocity channel to drive the embers and then rendered all the passes separately to composite in After effects.

One major thing if I could go back and change would be to setup my scene scale properly, After creating the scene which I thought was a decent size and added my fumefx grid I noticed it was very small. So I was working with a spacing of 0.1, I got around it but it was pretty tricky at times when adjusting settings as things were very sensitive. Should have just scaled the scene up, would have made things easier for myself
