Sounds like fun! I’ll be using 3dsmax with fumefx. Ill try to create a realistic one in either a 3d modeled enviorment, or maybe ill look around and film some empty bonefire place so i can add mine on top.
cheers and good luck to all

by the way, on my test renders of the set, with a moving camera using mentalray(final gather) i notice my specular highlights on the floor are shimmering. anyone knows a way to fix this?
thanks in advance
Are you sure FG is causing the specular flicker. It shouldn’t affect spec at all. One thing you can do is build an fg map. To complicated to explain here but there are tut’s on youtube that explain it well. Also, I’m fairly sure that FG won’t see your fire at all. Correct me if I’m wrong.
also, what you’re doing looks great. When I think of a bonfire though I think BIG. That’s seems more like a camp fire.
damn i was without pc for almost 3 weeks. damn Ramm got broken and i couldnt find out it was just a dimm that was making my pc not boot.
hopefully im not too late to do this!
thanks for the comments! u are absolutly right! I am increasing the size of this thing
cheers

FXWARS Challenge:38- Bonfire: Post Your FINAL ENTRY
hey guys, heres my final entry
hope you guys like it. IT was a lot of fun to me.
since i have to work even on weekends, i could only spare a couple of days during the last nights. So i guess from last saturday night until today. so 5 days for a couple of hours.
i ended up doing everything in cg(the sky was a photo i took sometime ago) . done in 3dsmax , using fumefx, and then composited in after effects.

Wow, this is big fire indeed! I really like how dark shapes of wood look like contrasting with bright fire.
