FXWars! BIG Freeze!: Liquid, Frozen City Enviroment

Hi,
I’m pretty new to the vfx scene. I saw this challenge and al these amazing teams, but i thought: well i just trie it on my own and see how far i come :slight_smile: So my idea is to make a frozen enviroment but just not a normal one :eek: :bounce: I thought of making a scene where you see a city in snow, in front of you. From the right side you see something like a snow storm coming, that’s just a quarter in the city already. Then from the left side you see a stream of lava coming down the hill, this is also about a quarter in the city already. I hope you understand it, i’ll make a quik sketch tomorrow for you if you don’t. It’s gonna be very difficult and maybe i just take another idea.

Here’s my first WIP, it’s a very quik test. I tried some differrent snow effects, and i just really simple mapped a few cubes. This is just a very quik test off course :smiley:

I have tried to create the shader for the lava, i have two options (or i could edit it further). I’m not sure if it’s finished yet cause i’m not sure if the percentage of the fluid and the solid of the lava is right. I think it needs more fluid. But well i let you say :thumbsup: Sssoo:

Shat shader looks pretty good!
Both options are looking great.
I think it depends from the mood of te scene what lava you should use!

Well thank you, yeah i’m still trying to figure out what mood it’s gonna be. Here’s another test ! :wise: Just a bit more fluid, i hope you like it.

A created a test of a stream of lava running down. This is just a plane with a painted mask for the lave. I’m not quite happy with the result but i know what i want to do, only that takes more time (not today :D) Tomorrow more updates!

Hmmmm… No comments? :sad: Oh well i just continue with my work :slight_smile: Here’s a test i did of a glacier in frozen water, i’m thinking of maybe making the city on a glacier, but tell me what you think about that :wise: Well here it is:

Thank you 3DEffects :thumbsup: Well as i said i’m not quite happy with the result of the lava stream, but that’s beceause i need to put more time in the mask. Well now i see it on a fresh day i’m actually fairly happy with the glaciar. More updates coming today! :slight_smile:

Really nice work!
The ice looks very realistic… Reminds my at the opening sequence of
day after Tomorrow…
