WIP THREAD:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=153&t=1212646&page=1&pp=15

DESCRIPTION:

This was mainly done to test my current workflow and pipeline. I really wanted to teach myself more about After Effects, focusing on camera effects (dof, blur, grain, CA, etc) and tracking.

It was also an exercise in creating dynamic camera moves - I know that ‘Shakey Cam’ is very done these days - but it was fun to try and simulate those styles directly in CG instead of adding it in post.

I also didn’t use GI and tried to use as many tricks as possible to get everything rendered at 720p on time!

And finally, my overriding goal was ‘DIGIC on a shoestring budget’ - trying to get as close as possible to those styles of shots in 3 days with one person. I know I fell WAY short of the mark - but I enjoyed the challenge non-the-less, and learned a LOT. I know that I will be applying all of these lessons to my future projects!

ASSETS AND PROGRAMS

The assets were from DAZ, some custom modeling and extra detailing. Animation was through Mixamo.
3DSMax, Vray, DAZ, After Effects, Final Cut.

DESCRIPTION: The Skyrim DLC you’ve all been waiting for is here!

Although the final resolution is low, and there are a thousand things I want to tweak, but this is all I could do. Hope its enjoyable. I had an incredible time with fellow challengers who continually pushed me to do better with their updates

The exciting GPU renderer Redshift & the handy Mixamo were crucial to finish this in 3 days.

Was hard, but learned a lot by doing this, well worth it in its own way.

For best visual effects I would have to say that Miron Blocki’s one is excellent! Love the concept and the slow reveal!

My favorite entry is Ishan Shukla’s tho. Love the voice over and the wonderful soft feel to it.

So:

Miron Blocki
Ishan Shukla

Helpful eh?

I understand the challenge ran under FX Wars, but it’s very hard to vote based on Visual Effects. I suppose the challenge was about finishing a whole cinematic in 3 days. Vfx is just one of the aspects

My favorite overall entry is
Christopher Bischoff

That was LOT of work man!

#11

Bravo to everyone who finished. Massive undertaking to complete in 3 days.

I’m going to have to vote for Ishan Shukla.
With Christopher Bischoff being a close close second.

Great work everyone.

#12

Come on guys… vote! :buttrock:
I know we are all very busy sometimes to participate in the challenge, but voting takes one minute.

My vote goes to Ishan Shukla, and as WyattHarris mentioned, the Christopher Bischoff did also a great job (the only thing that prevailed for me, is because Christopher maybe (over)composited some stuff a bit too much (too much aberration, for example…).

Honorable mention to Miron Blocki, and his very nice visual slow motion cinematic.

I though the exact same thing, when I saw this thread. I am mostly specialized in visual effects, but for me, that was a never goal here. The idea is (as I get it) to create cinematic, trailer, or anything that behave “on it’s own”, and that could be done without any visual effects.

#13

Great work all!

Christopher Bischoff have my vote.
Honorable mention to ishan shukla, Boban Krsmanovic :applause:

#14
  1. Kjetil Molteberg

  2. Miron blocki

  3. Boban Krismanovic

I liked all of the submissions but I think Kjetil Molteberg just incorporated all of the elements of the challenge the best with great use of the topic, prop, color and optional use of the poem.

#15

REvenge of the knee!

#16

Really hard to decide, as every entry has something exceptional that could potentially change the ranking. Really great work!

  1. Christopher Bischoff
  2. Ishan Shukla
And a honorable mention to Kjetil Molteberg and Boban Krsmanovic!

#17

Ok guys I am closing the voting thread in 24 hours…

#18

I’m going with myself!
but…not sure if that counts since I’m going with myself all the time regardless of the result.

So in that case, I would have to go with Ishan Shukla on this one.
