FX Wars! Water Balloon! :Stephen Meli

#1

I figured I might give it a try, no promises of finishing though. No pop, but here is a preliminary simulation of a pin prick. 5 MB

[Edit] Here is the type of thing I want to end up with. YouTube link

Hey that’s a great start to a water drop, are you using realFlow for the simulation or another package?

Blender fluid sim. This is probably a little backwards, but I think I’m going to try to get the fluid dropping part perfect, and then worry about the actual balloon popping.

#5

Sorry about the double post, my computer was freaking out last night.

Blender huh, we just got the lastest realFlow in our office last week so I think I’m going to try using that for the water sim, and then maya for the balloon, don’t know exactly how I’m going to do everything quite yet, but I’m pretty excited about learning some new software. Good luck with the challenge

#6

Are you going to make the water simulate the splash on a full CG caracter? Just kidding, good reference!

#7

This test is pretty much the same as the first, but I cranked up the fluid resolution as high as my computer would allow (229.)

I’m not very happy with the splash at this point. I think I’m going to add a bowl or something to send the water spraying back up into the air instead of just flattening and splashing against the walls of the domain.

#8

Ah, much better. Now I just need to make the domain a little wider to avoid wall splashes, and I can move on to the balloon itself.

5 MB DivX

[Edit] Should it be a little longer?

#9

hey Cap, that’s looking really good so far, my only thing would be that it looks alot like a giant rain drop, and as it fall it looks very symetrical, i think if you got a good starting shape do it it would look really good, can’t wait to see what you do with the balloon

#10

Ok, tonight I’ll re-bake the simulation but nudge the fluid off to the side a bit so it isn’t so symmetrical. This would make sense anyway, as the initial pin prick is bound to give the fluid a bit of sideways motion.
