FX WARS: Tornado, Buster, F5, Freeform

#1

Okay after I tanked on the last one (congradulations SottageCheese, that was a really good entry), I will try this one out.

I have roughed out some basic camera movement and landscape.

The idea is that I will have the shot as if it was taken from a moving car. That will let me motion blur out the foreground so that I don’t have to much detail.

I will post some progress as I start replacing the placeholders in the scene.

Thanks

That pre-vis looks good! I think that will work pretty good.

#3

Thanks Rickmeister.

I have replaced some of the placeholders and I am working on blocking out some of the animation. Still have a lot of work to do, but here is a small update.

any comments or crits are more than welcom.

Thanks

#5

Hey this is looking great!! Cant wait to see more!

#6

Thanks Tris3d

I have roughed out some of the basic building particle action. There is still a lot of tweaking to do, one of which is to get Vray to stop crashing with so many particles (hence no preview render in this post).

I was able to free up some memory and get a couple of preview renders

#8

one more

#9

Wow wow wow! Looking very good mate! That is going to look so cool when rendered out and there is still the tornado to add! Cant wait! Amazing!

#10

Thanks a lot Tris3d.

Here are a couple of preview renders with the first rough draft of a tornado. I am looking for a “meaty”, dense, dirty kind of tornado. I still have a long way to go and I am going to need to leave this project for a week, I hope I can finish on time.

Thanks

#11

wow that looks great! What method are you using for the tornado itself? is it a mesh or particles? Im still in the learning process so i trying to learn from everyone stuff on here

#12

Wow! that looks great, good job.

#13

That was quick, thanks for the kind words.

I am using a partical system attached to an animated mesh for the tornado. I am then running that through Afterburn. So far there is nothing really special about the either the particle flow or Afterburn setup, but here are a couple of screen shots.

#14

Looking fantastic mate! Looks very threatening! I’m stuck with my progress at the moment because I’m having major problems camera matching my footage. :frowning:

Keep up the good work!

#15

Yo Buster!

Whats up with the project?

I havent checked cgtalk for a while, and I love what I see in this thread. How are you progressing? Do you stay true with your previs? It looks like it. But I’m wondering if you have second thoughts on some things in the animation/scene since the pre-vis.

Cheers,

#16

Thanks all for the possitive feedback.

I just got back from vacations and found that I have another project that demands my attention, but I am still going to do my best to finish this one in my “spare” time.

I am setting up one work station now to start my rendering passes. So far no major changes from the previs, just some small tweaking.

I will get some updates sent as soon as I have them.

Hello there, really nice work, I hope you get time to finish this, I would love to see the final render…

Well, I had a little time to throw at this project so I jumped into playing with the composition. Here is a rough test, hopefully it won’t be my final entry.

Thanks
