Working on trying to get the mist to emit from the crest waves…
After a lot of trial and error I got some mist emitted from the crest. Still not very happy with the position and motion but I’m running out of ideas…

And the anim test:

Help and comments welcome.
THATS IT!
PERFECT!
ITS POYFIKT!
Wow i wanna see it longer!
good job
EDIT: Now if you bring your camera down and look up at the same time so its a tilt up and move down camera movement at the same time and add that camera shake from your reference with some good sounds like wind and such you will be on the money i believe
Thanks for the comments.
Here is a longer anim. I’ll add the camera shake later.
Ocean anim (QT 900kb)
Update: Added some more foam after reading some posts about wake emitters. Added sound and camera shake.

Anim (QT 1.2MB)
Thanks.
The mist was a lot of trial and error. Those are clouds particles emitted from the top of the waves (if above a certain height emit else do not emit) with the usual forces(wind, turbulence, drag, gravity). I’m still not happy with the motion but it was getting very tedious with so many forces. There are so many things to tweak that I ended up not knowing what was doing what exactly… :argh:
I couldn’t get them to look good for the whole ocean though so I ended up doing 3 passes of mist: background, middleground and foreground.
Composited in Aftereffects. Duplicating and overlaying mist layers with different blur and opacity.
Lately I added a foam pass by adding a wake emitter to the ocean and rendered only the foam (a black ocean and white foam) so I could composite it in AE and adjust the opacity and depth. That helped create a denser look where the mist particles are emitted.
Excellent work. The last movie with the sound, I would adjust the waves a bit more. Maybe make some even more sharp and have more froth on the peaks. Mind you, hear I am critiquing and yet have nothing really to show yet…
Great work though. I can’t wait to see the end results.
Hope to see an update soon. The dateline is fast approaching, so you have enought time to render the final scene.

Hi Guys,
I used ‘Alias Maya - Fluids’ to produce this Ocean Scene. I just took 30 mins to setup.
Enjoy.
