funky Vertex weights

#1

Hey there!

I am rigging a character i modeled guided by a DT-tutorial for an animation I want to create. I thought i quite mastered the vertex weights… and all of the sudden this is happening to my mesh (see image) .

The painted weights shown are for the JawBone, and the vertexes around the lips are going all funky all of the sudden. I also deiscovered that when i edit the weights of a certain selected vertex, other vertexes start to move. What the hell is hapening? :open_mouth: anybody any clue?? i also already made 14 morph shapes… are these going to be unusable now?

Thanks loads for the help!! :applause:

I’m not positive with out checking the maya scene out, but
I know having weights on post normalization and not interactive allows weights to
go above the value of 1.(i.e. you could paint the jaw to be 1 for the jaw,
but there could still be 1 of head influence on some of those verts)

So that could be the culprit, but without looking at the scene I can’t really say for sure
though. It may possibly be an issue of the joints were not frozen when added as influences.

As for your morph/ blendshapes, those should be fine since they are going to the mesh and not relying on joints or a bind.
