FumeFx Problem!

#1

First of all, i’d like to say hello to everyone.this is my first post so i thought it only right to introduce myself…My name is Alun-Rhys and I’ve been using cinema 4d for about 3 months.I just recently made the change to 3ds max 9 and picked up a copy of FumeFx. for some reason i cannot select the objects with the pick object button…forgive me if this is an old problem, but again i am new to this.
By the way, im also a producer and musician, so if anyone requires any music for their films or demo reels then get in contact.sure we could trade skills for skills.

Hope to be part of this site for a long time:)

id suggest doing the tutorials that fume comes with when you get a copy of it. it explains the process in there.

asked in FumeFX thread aswell .

about the tutorials, im encountering this while doing tutorials.
so thats not really solving anything :frowning:

The only advice I can offer… Make sure you’ve installed the correct version. There are two: the first is the full version, the second is a simulation version (which only runs sims, all other features of the plugin are disabled) it has SL in the installer name.

#5

thx johnny,

i’ve just checked it out. Apparantly i do have the right version, so its got to be something else. The installer is FUMEFX10_r9_32
It’s a bit hard to find decent info on the subject so i’m hoping someone can help me out.

thx,
ron

Is it FumeFX 1.0a?

Not sure that it’ll fix the issue but that is the current version.
I assume you’ve tried re-installing the plugin?

#7

dont think it’s 1.0a , just 1.0.
its for MAX 9. I’ll ask someone at the job tomorrow. Theyve got it up and running there.
i’ll have another go tomorrow. A collegue i just called said there could be license issues.
Can u only install it on 1 pc ?

that would suck, i’m just an intern there and they wanted me to have a go at it in my spare time.

You can install it on as many machines as you want provided that the license server has access to all the said machines. You can only use one license at any one time on any one machine. OR install locally and its tied to that machine then you need access to that machine (as it will run as the license server) to access fume.

#9

think we’ve got the problem there.
I just figured it was working since i had access to it in max.
It’s running on my laptop now, and the license server is at work.
i guess i need connection from home to work then if i want to use it.
balls.

yo’z

i finally solved it.
It turns out it wasnt license at all. They sorted that for me. i love my collegues

problem was ; i needed to drag out an object source first and then add.
pff…
anyhows, prolly noobcakes stuff for u guys, but ive only been using this plugin since saturday  hurryin back to my tutorials now !
thx again for the help

I have the same problem, but I did place and Object Src from the FumeFX helpers. From this I can pick an object like a sphere. But when I go to the FumeFX UI Obj/Src tab I can’t pick the Object Src. I click on the Pick Object button and then click on the Object Src in the scene, but the UI just closes and for some strange reason it simply selects the Object Src and switches to the move gizmo.

I’m totally stuck with this, any ideas?

edit: Got it to work now, you not only have to create the Object Src, you must link it to some object like a box or something by clicking on Pick Object in the Object Src modify tab. Then you go into the FumeFX UI and link it to Object Src.
