Hi. I’m having a problem with my smoke not rendering at all when I use the Channel Data shader instead of the standard one. No idea what’s going on.
Anyone knows what this could be caused by? Thanks.

Which channel have you selected under Channel Data? Make sure you have exported the channel you have chosen. For example, if you have chosen Velocity but haven’t simulated it, you won’t be able to use it for rendering. Also, any reason why you’re trying to use the Channel Data shader? I haven’t found much practical use for it.
It’s just smoke and I tried exporting all possible channels… Still not working.
I need it because I’m trying to make an ‘‘Ice cold smoke effect’’ on an ice material. I can’t make the smoke white enough it seems, without these channels… Also having a problem LESSENING the smoke… It seems like a big bulk, whereas I just want tiny curls around the text. Still can’t achieve that effect… Any ideas? Thanks.
Have you tried changing the colour of the smoke from its default grey and lowering the opacity in the smoke rendering tab? You shouldnt need to do anything with the data channel.
Have you added lights to the illumination tab?
Are you using any lights in your scene? and if so have you added them to your illumination tab? Like Jordan advised, try changing your smoke colour/opacity as well. As for the ‘bulk’ look, it sounds like your sim is fairly low res? Any pictures you can chuck up, will be much easier to help you out.
Hi and thanks for your help.
I have added a light and I have colored the smoke completely white.
Here is a picture. As you can see, it’s not very ‘‘icy’’. There’s way too much of it, and it could be brighter. Looks nothing like in the Fume render frame…

So turn you light up! More light = brighter stuff!
Also you can mess with the Visual falloff to let the light penetrate the smoke more (giving it that illuminated from within look), or turn on multiple scattering and play with the smoke strength (how much light the smoke will give off) ,although i wouldnt recommend it so much, lots of messing around and i think visual falloff will give you what you want.
Also have a look at the manual and do some of the tutorials in there
