FumeFX Cache Workflow

#1

I am having some issues with my FumeFX cache. Is there something that I need to do besides the default simulation to cache it? I see .fdc and .fxd files in the cache folder but I’m not really sure what to do with those, if anything.

When you have cached out your simulation, the files are saved to the location you point it to and next time you play the animation, the files are read from the cache folder. So, as far as I understand, you don’t do anything wrong. You will get one .fxd file for each frame.
Fume will remember you cache location, so if you save your scene and open it again, it still using your cache, so don’t delete them if you are happy with the simulation.

Yes, thank you. I was thinking that FumeFX worked like RayFire in that you could essentially bake out an animation that could be past on. My understanding now is that you need to render out the simulation and then either use it as is or comp it with other renders in After Effects.

Your simulation frames can be used for many things besides rendering. You can post process those frames within Fume too by; Time, Upres w/ Wavelet, exclude channels, ect.

You can also run those caches through Krakatoa and now VRays Render Volume.
