FumeFX: "application error" ...spacing below 2.0

hi there…

I have problem, my max always crash if I set my ‘spacing’ below 2.0 (in fumefx general setting), example I can’t set my spacing 1.6
my computer using 32bit XP, 3.25gig ram.

its say…with spacing 2.0, a voxel grid are 234 x 325 x 53, sim up to 343 mb. my computer can handle it…, then with spacing 1.6, a voxel grid are 293 x 406 x 66, sim up to 667mb…I think my computer can handle it…but the fact is my max always cant finish the sim…'cos my max crash…‘application error’ …
is this because not enough ram or what?

i was trying too with spacing 1.7 and 1.8…still crash…

any idea to solve this problem?

should I try with XP 64bit?

Yes, absolutely. You’ll run into way fewer problems when using ram intense apps like fume.
