Frustrated!

hi all,
i got a real basic question. everytime i get to where i wanna animate something i run into the same problem and then lose interest.
HOW DO I SET THE INTERPOLATION METHOD FOR ALL CHANNELS? HELL, HOW DO I CHANGE IT FOR ONE CHANNEL?

The only way i found is when i drill down in an action i can see interpolation methods for translation(or whatever was keyframed for that bone) of XY and Z. i don’t want to go thru every bone and adjust this stuff. if i select the keyframes in the timeline and hit the channels button( i assume that is what the second button is) nothing changes. i know in version 8 i could show the channels then draw a box around them all to select them and then edit the interpolation method to change them all at once. I can’t figure out how to do that now.

Oh yeah, i am in v.9.51e
windows2000

i searched the online reference manual, but no help except for definitions…i’m lost!

thanks,

If you click on the bones folder while in channel mode (In the PWS timeline) you will see all of the channels at once. You can then drag a round all of those channel CPs and right-click to change the interpolation method.

zandoria,
that doesn’t work for me. if i select the bones folder, i still just see keyframe mode in the timeline. if i open bones folder, then open a bone and select an individual item, such as Transform.Translate.X then i see that as a channel in the timeline.
I got this same response on the mailing list and i can’t get it to work.
i tried the bones folder under drivers too, no go. i opened old scenes, i made new scenes…i tried the walk actions for the models given away on the A:M community…still i can’t see channels unless i select an idividual channel from the PWS.

thanks for the response!!! any other ideas? maybe i am doing something wrong?

thanks again,

Is there not a channel button at the bottom of the PWS timeline?

#5

someone from the list sent me a screenshot of what it should look like when you select a bones folder…looks great. here is what i see no matter what…

thanks for the replies Zandoria!!!

confused and dissapointed,

I’m sorry to interupt this thread with my questions, but why do you need this? I know nothing of animation. Maybe the very simple ideas. Why do you need to affect all the channels. And what is Interpolation?

Thanks for listening to the guy who only makes still but is hopeing one day to animate.

zaryin,

interpolation is basically how the keyframes in an animation interact with each other. i think most 3Ders refer to this as f-curves(function curves). you can change how a movement(keyframe) is eased into and out of by changing the the interpolation method. there are 4 types of interpolation in A:M(i think in most other packages too): Spline, 0-slope, Linear, and Hold. There is a description of each method in David Rogers book “animation master 2002:a complete guide”. You can find use of these in keith lango’s tutorial “pose to pose animation” www.keithlango.com.

this is difficult for me to write out, let me see if i can find a simple tutorial. hey here is one in A:M:
Bouncing Ball using channels
i linked you to the middle of the tutorial where they dicscuss the use of channels.

here’s another:http://icoldwell.com/pixelsplace/tut/bounce.html

i hope this helps!
