From Maya 6 to Half Life 2

#1

Ok, i know that probably someone had ask this before, but i coudn’t find it… The point is i’m working freelance for a game studio, and they gave me the oportunity to model some maps for a Half Life 2 modification.
The point is, i work mostly on Maya (also Cinema 4D, but most the time maya) and i need to save the file in .smd format, so does anybody out there know how to run the melscript that can do that…? i’m a middle level user so i’ll need some babysteps explanation please! Extra tip, I’m runing Maya on a Mac.
Thanks!

which program can export to smd? softimage?

maybe you can export from maya as fbx, import in softimage and save there as smd? maybe it works with the foundation trial?

check out valves website or the steam updtaes, Im pretty sure that there are Maya and Max exporters also. It`s true, that XSI supports natively smd export, but Valve made the exporters for Maya and Max also

you use the files supplied in the HL2 SDK (on pc they are in C:\Program_Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps*yourusernamehere*\sourcesdk\maya\4.5)

put the contents of the scripts directory in your scripts directory (maya\x.0\scripts) and all the files in the prefs\icons directory in your icons directory (maya\x.0\prefs\icons)

then it should come up in your plug-in manager (window\settings/preferences\plug-in manager…) and you can tick the box for it to load then and auto-load when you open maya.

hope this helps.
