Mark,
I tried posting this in your forums but couldn’t so I hope you see this here:

I received your DVD yesterday and thanks for allowing me the chance to improve my Wings knowledge

I’ve had a chance to review it and came up with a few points.

First, I’m a fairly new Wings user as I’ve only been using it solidly for about 3 months so you know the perspective in which I viewed the DVD.

You might want to say what version of Wings you did the tut’s in considering that it seems to change versions so frequently with added features and improvements. And also what type of audience where you aiming at? If this is for the Wings newbie you might want to include a short chapter explaining menus, commands and shortcuts.

I understood what you where doing (and learned quite a bit in the process  thank you!) but I’m familiar with most of the Wings interface.

I like the variation of organic and mechanical modeling to cover several concepts. I believe this helps out the people new to modeling a lot and it seems most tutorials on the web tend to lean more toward organic shapes leaving a gap for mechanical tutorials.

I like the DVD root menu. Nice and simple, but I would add descriptions under the buttons like:

Play all tutorials

Select a Chapter

Hope this “review” helps you and I agree with making a donation to the “cause” especially for the cost of DVD’s and shipping which can get very expensive. You might also think about avi’s for downloading if you have the web space available.

Once again, good job on the tuts and thanks for giving me the chance to view it.

Cheers

Richard

What happend when you tried to POST ???

A few people have complained about the forum functionality recently. I’d like to know more about what’s going on.

Yeah, the DVD probably needs a very verbose … audio narration heavy chapter on the basics. I figured with what I have so far … you can always slow way down with the controls if a menu item becomes crucial.

I’m definately trying to show do-ability … high-level approach type stuff v.s. trying to introduce all the keys and functions one by one. If I do another DVD … I’ll definately have a chapter for NEWBIES.

I don’t know much about DVD structure yet … the menus and customization. That will take me some time to work out.

Thanks for your comments.

Glad I could help.

I signed up for an account and when I went to post it told me I had to have administrative rights to post in that forum.

Keep up the good work. This is a fantastic community and I hope it grows.

Im supposed to be getting mine, and Im very excited about it.Hope its a good one. Hope it includes stuff like hotkeys etc.like the post mentioned , but i still will be pleased to see it.

I don’t know why that forum had limited rights.

Please try posting there now if you could, to reassure me all is well.

Any other of my forums not allowing ???

Hot keys are not really discussed on the DVD as I don’t use any hot keys other than real defaults. Seriously … to learn the hot-keys … just look at the extra menu text and the command-line at bottom of wings3D screen.

Hot keys I used D (repeat last) , e edge mode, v vert mode, b object mode, c connect, backspace for dissolove and only a few others. You don’t need to know many hotkeys to make Wings3D scream. I don’t understand the almost universal facination with hot-keys. I think that programs just need to define natural hot keys and that a good programmer will select them wisely enough for most people. Sounds idealistic, but that’s the way I like to see software development play out. The Macintosh had it right back in 1984 … with the exception of the 1 button mouse. Definately need at least two.

the great thing about wings is with hotkeys it dont really mattr, its so easy to customize them on the fly.

Hotkeys only speed up your workflow if you know whre they are and the are tailor made to your specifc requirements.

#14

I think I need hot keys for Tweek and Connect.

I’ll have to give it a go.

This Crab is introduced and much of it constructed on the Wings3D DVD ROM.

GG - might be interested to know that for the longest time ive been using ctrl+alt+q for tweak, so pretty much my left hand never leaves the left side of the keyboard

I also have connect hotkeyed to I think to ctrl+alt+w

but seriously the ctrl+alt+q works very nicely imo, wish I coulda gotten a hold of that dvd… ah well, I would donate, but as I owe a fair sum of money myself, donations are pretty much out of the question :stuck_out_tongue:

How to get a DVD, GetaVe

If you were to beta test some of my new RenderMan support in ManifoldLab … I’d probably feel like I should send you a DVD. Like if you would test render one of your models in the round (make an AVI using Manifold … applying at least one shader). Just a way to get involved. I’m making this offer specifically to you GetaVe.

sure man, whatever i can do to help, you know

though, it might be more trouble than what its worth considering i am not exactly fluent in your program as of yet. buuut ill see what i can do

maybe ill even finish off the daemon dog for ya, haha
