@embryotic: thank you for this beautiful drawing which show how much Frank Frazetta was so much more than a talented fantasy artist.

I feel like if I just learned that santa Claus passed away…

Thirty years ago, me and a friend where literally hunting for Frazetta work here in Belgium, there wasn’t no internet in those times, you ad to find some specialized library. We where studying Bridgman books to learn something from those amazing drawing.

Our “magic trinity” was:
André Franquin
Jean giraud (moebius)
Frank Frazetta

Hats off

He was the master for most of us,
I just hope the situation of the last few months will be sorted out.

RIP

RIP Franky… May your work keep inspiring people.

#24

without him as an inspiration of what art+imagination could be used to create,
i doubt i would be doing what i am now.

i truly regret this passing of one of the greatest artists of our time.
he made mine and lots of other’s imaginations soar to much higher places…

Descanse en Paz.

we should make a tribute with a challenge.

#26

R.I.P Frank you inspired me with your fantasy art.

One day when I was a just a kid (8 or 9), my mom came home very excited from a day of shopping at yard sales. She had two paintings of “these really cool soldier guys”. They turned out to be a print of his “Silver Warrior”, and a print of the Death Dealer painting at the top of this thread. I’m 30 and they are both still hanging in my game room to this day. As a kid I filled entire sketchbooks trying to reproduce the Death Dealer painting. RIP Mr. Frazetta. You will be missed.

I second the idea of a challenge to pay tribute!

That’s a pretty cool mom.

When I was that age my mom was telling me I couldn’t have the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” because it “isn’t a very nice song.”

I also couldn’t have the sweater with Snoopy saying “Curse you, Red Baron!”. Just not nice enough.

A Challenge as a Tribute is a MUST i think too.

The most amazing artist i have ever came across and one of my biggest inspirations until i die.

Have a peaceful journey Mr. Frazetta.

#30

Absolutely, I’d love to see that

#31

we should make a tribute with a challenge.

Great idea!

RIP :frowning:

#32

That is really sad. I hope he is at some place he liked to be now. You know, this industry had grown and has such a reach history that we came to a point, we’re loosing those heroes we started doing CG at the first place. Really sad news.

#33

Another great master is gone.

#34

May we be truly thankful for what he has given us. He threw open the doors for so much of what is made today. He will be missed.

#35

I agree 2d or 3d!

His artworks has inpsired me ever since I was a kid… even though I didn’t know of his name back then. Now you could never forget that name.

RIP Frank Frazetta…

#36

That’s a great idea!

#37

A real shame. You can pretty much trace all great fantasy art back to this guy.

#38

I hope he’s with his beloved Ellie once again. He was easily the biggest influence on my work, and one of the greatest artists in any medium, ever. I never met him, but I’m gonna miss him, and the world is a poorer place without him. An astonishing man.

I’m numb, to be honest; I was given a Frazetta book at Christmas 1974 by my brother, and it’s no exaggeration to say it pretty much dictated the course of my life by inspiring me to go to art school in the first place.

#39

Thank you for all your kickass work Frank.
Rest in peace.

My uncle was given this framed print in the 70’s. I loved that picture growing up so he finally gave it to me and it’s still hanging in my bedroom, much to my wife’s consternation.
