Fracture FX: a cross-platform, procedural destruction plugin for for Maya.

How about some more custom crack patterns.

We have been working on that but it isn’t ready yet. I personally am getting bored of seeing voronoi in every ‘destruction solution’ that hits the market. We have a couple other methods of fracturing, like crack image and split plane, which at least gives users a couple other options. In the past I have seen users manually select the point cloud (which is just a particle object) and non-uniformly scale and translate it to break up the generic voronoi pattern. As we say at work: “If you’re not cheating you’re not trying hard enough”

how about some pre shatter deformations too And shatter based on stress maps of colliding geometry, or not shatter at all.

That is planned for the future. All of us at Fracture have day jobs in major studios so with Fracture its one feature at a time (when we aren’t getting hammered with OT). Time is not on our side but at least we know from experience the direction to go in as far as workflow and being pipeline compatible. All of us have felt the pain of using some piece of software that was developed by someone without first hand experience of working in production.

When this plugin is inevitably released, do you have an idea of what the price range would be? I’m not a part of a major film company, but I am planning on making a short film sometime in the near future and would love to be able to incorporate it into my workflow…price permitting of course.

Possibly Q1 of next year. We closed beta testing so we can actually devote some time to getting a commercial release ready. I can’t quote the price right now but the price will be more than reasonable.

Once again Fracture FX shines in another production as it utilized by the talented team at Zoic Studios for the Superbowl X Factor commercial. Great work and congratulations to Andy W. and his dedicated team of artists.

i suppose this is dead?or we will actually have some more news concerning it?

its been really long since we last had any kind of info

On the fracture tester forums there’s a current ‘state of things’ thread with what “Needs to be added”, with a nice “(this is hard, which is why the next build is somewhat delayed)”. The forums aren’t as active as they used to be but I believe this is still strongly in development.

Good question.

When this tool will be released?

#72

We all also have day jobs working in production. It would be different if we had a full work week to dedicate to Fracture alone, but we don’t. There just isn’t anything new to that can be shown to the public.

#73

well, maybe you can skip your day-job once this plugin is released  Fracture-FX looks very promising, we just need to be able to buy it…

Is there any ETA?

#74

I am looking forward for this plugin but main concern is that you people having the daily production jobs and knowing beta was shut down how long will it take for bugs and fixes to be released when the product does come out in the end?

In your website or something I read start of 2011 and we had no news hence the reason that I posted the question here ;D
