For who wants Wings on Linux easily

#1

Hi,

I’ve bee ntrying to install Wings on Linux… On googling, I found multiple hard methods. But taht’s actually really easy. Download the .run.tar.gz file on sourceforge.net. This file is packed (zipped), so unpack it and you get .run (taht’s the exection of a sheel script).

Just type in the Terminal : sh wings-v.e.r.s.i.o.n-linux.run

That’s all ! Happy winging

when i type it into the terminal window, it says that “no such file or directory”

Are you sure you replaced v.e.r.s.i.o.n. with the right version? With other words just extract the the .run, then open the console, change to the directory where you extracted .run to, and type sh name of the .run file (if you press tab after the first few letters it should automaticly complete it).
Works perfectly over here, the only problem is that you can’t choose the directory it is installed in (it is always the home/user/wings3dversion directory).

It would be cool if the Wingsteam could use the Loki installer for these .run files.

Ares,
Did you remember to change the working directory (cd command or drag’n’drop from Konqueror to the console window)?
In case you don’t want to spell out the whole file name, you can use a wildcard character with sh, as in:

sh wings*.run

This way you can’t misspell it.
