I took some photos in the stadium (Brasil vs Ghana) today. I am off for two weeks in my holidays which means I will have to miss out on our discussions of red/yellow cards and what not, which is a pity, because I enjoyed this thread a lot.

*the other one being the 66 WC in England, where we were eliminated by Bobby Charlton England

I just love the way British press is gathering for days now for the usual feast of loud shouting and assault on the next opponent of England.
The cheating argument makes another comeback… my only worry is the way the referee will handle that pressure.

All four games will be great, if not for the football quality, because of the intensive manner they will be played and the great rivalry involved in some of the games from decades now!!
Portugal and Ukraine are the outsiders of this group, so for us, the WC is becoming a great party and a happy experience :slight_smile:
And since Portugal is the European country with the biggest percentage of female audience on this WC, we can even talk about football with the majority of the women and that has to be a great thing… :wink:

Here are my thoughts:wise: :

Argentine 2- Germany 1 {new attacking of style of Germany has been wonderful, but not enough even playing at home}

Italy 2 - Ukraine 0 {Ukraine not quite to the level of ITALIA!}

Portugal 1 - England 0 {would love to see England win, but if they play like they have been, it won’t be enough}

France 3 - Brazil 2 {Zidane and Henry makes the difference!:eek: }

anyway lets face it, England will loose 1 nil, they didn’t play well against the weaker teams and now they face Portugal, I hope I see good fights in this game :smiley:

I hope Germany - Argentina is going to be an awesome Match. Of course i hope that Germany wins, but this will be the toughest Match for Germany in this Tournament.
But we have the best Fans in the World, and at home we’re nearly invincible.

Italy - Ukraine 2:0. This would be no Problem for Italy.

England - Portugal 0:1. Sorry England, i really like your Football but at this Moment, Portugal is just that little bit better.

Brazil - France 3:0. This is going to be a one-sided match.

I’ve got a feeling fat frank will finally find his shooting boots in this game, a bit like Scholesy did against Croatia in Euro 2004 after a long drought. Whether it will be enough I dont know. Sadly Eriksson and McLaren have managed to get us playing like some sunday league pub team despite the player resources at their disposal. Still, I’ll mail my colours to the mast and say we’ll do Portugal at the weekend largely due to the returning form and fitness of Rooney, plus the fact that Portugal will be missing some key players.

unfortunatly this chip is far too large to remove :wink: when the tournament started i just couldnt hide my disgust that we wernt going to be part of it ;-( (and prob wont be for some years to come)

so the only thing that will make it better for some of us bitter twisted scots is for England to get beaten…

forgive my American ignorance, but why is the WC only every 4 years?

I coach little league soccer and I actually start playing old fat fart soccer(over 35 non-competitive) tonight for the first time in 23 years! I hope I don’t have a heart attack!

same way the olympics is every 4 years…it wouldnt be anything special if it was every single year. also tournaments like the european championships (and appropriate tournament for whatever part of the world you are in) are also played in the summer months every 4 years in between the world cup.

god help ure little league team if you havent played in 23 years :wink:
