For FUN - WorldCUP, Whom do you stand for?MOD EDIT: CONGRATS ITALY!!!!

And Portugal too. You’re biased remember? As I am.

Maybe I have to agree.
But WTF 11(port)+9(holl) yellow cards and each team 2 red?!!
At the end it was like Portugal & Holland vs the Referee.
A good example of this was the shot of Deco sitting next to his Barcelona teammate Van Bronckhorst and Bhoularouz. They were like WTF?!
Anyway, too bad Holland lost, but I don’t mind Portugal going to the next round.
Because Portugal is a beautiful team.

Its about having a professional attitude: I saw two teams doing everything else than football… considering that they should know that they should be exemplary it’s bloody disgusting, that the hostility lasted till the end.

Ever thought about the ppl that get at risk because of the needless actions on that field? This is exactly how you can pitch fans to jump at each other, and in between innocent ppl get hurt that just want to see a good, fair game. Imagine if such a game would have played between germany and england…

This was not professional from both sides. Regardless of who started it. It’s really time that such attitude get’s penalised harder.

On the other hand it clearly showed as well that the whole referee system needs a look as well. That ref was completely overstrain.

Cheers

That first animalesque tackle on Ronaldo set the tone for the play: it went downhill from there thanks to the ref and childish play from everybody on the field.

Fun to watch, though. Hope Ghana doesn’t learn by example…

pff, the first minute and the last minute i was on the edge of my seat… too bad we missed all these chances :S

#626

Holland still should have won though! :stuck_out_tongue:

Typical of them in the World Cup finals, by the end of the match they can’t even remember how many shots on goal they’ve had and they still lose.

Still my favorite team though, even when they loose they’re always the more entertaining team to watch.

I agree that Heitinga made a big mistake, but both teams were equal on the lack of Fair-play. I haven’t seen a team that delayed the game as much as portugal in the last few minutes. first they want to put on the substitute, than the coach gets him back, the bench is all over the place, the 4th referee spends an extra minute to get them in their places… there go some 5 minutes.

And IMO Figo was the first one that started to get things personal. (and on normal occasions I would say he would deserve a red card… but… )

oops … I meant red

hehe, then you havent watched that england game before

That game was an absolute tinderbox. I don’t even think half the stuff was that bad, the ref just lost complete control of the game early on and it just steadily spiralled ever downward. Holland were hard done by imo, they had some decent chances. At least it’s taken away one headache for me now I can just completely support England in the quarters! Lucky that the game didnt go to extra time else it probably would have ended 7v7!

#630

I’m not the one saying the opposing team started the blood
It was unfortunate Bhoularouz injured Ronaldo. Both teams should’ve kept their cool after that foul. And the referee should’ve felt the tension between the teams and try to anticipate it instead of firing it up.
Anyway, Holland is going home and I’ll support Portugal against England.

there’s one reason though it’s a blessing that Portugal is still on the tournament…

we get to see fans like this…:

amir, unfortunately I will be on holiday from middle of the week (after I watched Brasil vs. Ghana in the stadium of my hometown… ), so I will not be able to directly react to the match of Germany vs. Argentina.

therefore, I will give my comments beforehand and will come back to it when I will be back and Germany has won the WC:

:scream:

:bounce:

Besides the obvious red card Boulahrouz should have gotten, i think it’s pretty safe to say that the ref had a more negative impact on the Dutch squad then the Portugese, ie. at least 1 10000% penalty kick, and some other fishy decisions.
Other then that, if you can’t beat a team that has 2 players send off, you don’t deserve to win.

#634

Well, besides all things contrary, it is pretty safe to say you are right:buttrock:

Well, I haven´t seen the match, but I have something to say about the way the referee seemed to handle the game.

If you are hard enough applyin the rules, then there is no way the match gets that violent. I mean, severe fouls like the one Ronaldo received MUST be a red card, there is no way you can keep the other player on the field, is an invitation for violence. So ok, let´s say it´s only a yellow card, fine. Then when you see the game is getting really violent, you have to speak to both captains and let them know you´re not willing to acept any more violence, and that you will punish any foul slightly strong with a red card, that you will not give any more advice. Then let the captain comunicate this to the rest of the team. If the game keeps violent you start to red card the hard fouls, believe me, players are not that stupid, once they see you are willing to get out of the match every single player on the field, they´ll relax.

I put a lot of the fault of that in the referee. A red card or a warning in the right moment is the way to go. I don´t understand how some people see it like the referee was too hard, 16 yellow cards? I would have fix it with no yellows and just two reds.

Don´t get me started at the players, I can´t believe people at this level can be so stupid, and give such a pathetic show.

My vote for Argentina, my second vote for Brazil
Actually I’d prefer seeing Brazil win if they dazzled us with some amazing football, but so far it doesn’t look like that, they’re style is getting almost as dull as the european teams
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places for quality football, apparently all teams in the World Cup are desperately focused on winning, it wasn’t always only about that, there used to be the wow factor, and there used to be riskier plays and less violence, sheesh.
Although Argentina may have some tricks up their sleeves, I wish they’d have Messi and Tevez play longer.

#638

gana needs to be in the final. i’m so tired of seeing overrated fancy players faking injuries in almost every contact trying to win match by some non-existing penalty. world cup should be won by heart.

Germans won by one more point than I expected, where was the Swedish offense? Time to update predictions:

Germany v Argentina 2-2 Draw
They’ve tied last two times they’ve met, I think the weak German defense will get penetrated, but they’ve got more morale momentum. I see a draw against the slightly superior Argentinians, with the only chance for a win being an early German score to demoralize their the latin foe. Only if Germans score two before half will a win be imminent.

Brazil v Ghana 2-0
I’m convinced this is the round Brazil wakes up, but if not, this could be the upset of the cup should Ghana outpace Brazil. Although I think this is the only team capable of performing an upset against Brazil. More likely, Brazil will go on to stiffer stuff like Spain.

England v Portugal 0-1
England can’t win this one. Their wins so far have skidded the border and tempted fate. An aggressive Portugal is going to shock them. Had a good run though.
