For FUN - WorldCUP, Whom do you stand for?MOD EDIT: CONGRATS ITALY!!!!

Korea totally lucked out in this match , France was playing like a beast and they had the ball for 80% of the time.

I must have watched another game, it was so boring.

#424

So far Argentina have been the most impressive team - beating SCG 6-0. SCG had allowed only 1 goal in 10 qualification matches. Also liked Ecuador, Ghana and Spain. Germany are playing better than I expected. Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal and Italy are so-so. England and France have been subpar so far. The Czechs started very well, but Ghana exposed their speed problems (they are one of the oldest teams based on average age).

#425

France have been impotent since '98. Thiery Henry scored a goal that even a kid would not miss, then didn’t do anything. Completely opposite to what he does for Arsenal.

#426

The French are in a crisis…

Folks, did you hear the Korean fan chants? I seldom heard anything that was as impressive as that. Sounded like a serious warrior chant seasoned with a totally enthusiastic party feel! Drums rolling and people really crying their lungs out. And the rhythms were partially really complex. It was a joy to hear it.

And, erm yea… as far as I am concerned the French could just pack their shit and leave. What an arrogant, tired and Ronaldoesque way of playing an opponent at the WC. Korea was more than harmless, but as you should know by now: every single participant in this WC can score a goal any time. To start playing the match when it’s nearly over will, well, get you only one point.
And Zidane’s way of leaving the field shows the difference between a real team and a bunch of primadonnas…

Also, Brazil! Or better: Australia!
Folks, deepest respect for the Aussies. The way they just stuffed any kind of frustration about the first goal and just kept on fighting and searching their chances was way to go.

Brazil is still anything but convincing.
Practically they play the kind of BS we football fans had to watch for the last twenty years each time Italy played. Score a goal and then block the whole game lurking in a hole for a counterattack. It works obviously, but who wants to watch a match like this?
Also, I am surprised the coach had the chuzpe to let Ronaldo play again. And yea, he was not as bad as last time…… of course not. That was a singular achievement… you couldn’t be that bad twice…!

Robinho is the one who could awake the Brazilian players from their sleep, but the way the team celebrated Fred (who the f… is Fred?) who wasn’t even aware that he was scoring a goal while he was trying to get his foot out of the way and then stumbled into the deflected ball of Robinhos hammer shot was… well… irritating.

Let’s hope Brazil remembers it’s not supposed to take Italy’s place before I get to see them in Dortmund, because I will support Ghana then…

Do you know if there is video out there for this? I would be extremely interested in seeing it, thanks.

Hear, hear! [no pun intended] It was really impressive

That was quite understandable IMO, there’s a big chance it was Zidane’s last match since he isn’t allowed to play the next one and he quits after the WC and well chances are big France won’t survive the first round. I totally understand his frustration.

Those Korean fan chants were awesome indeed, even when it seemed they were losing they were feeling convident and having a great time.

#431

:bounce: England!

IMO we still havn’t put up our strongest squad though we do have a very good chance of going all the way. Having said that we probably wont!

I predict being knocked out on penalties… Again.

#432

England have played their strongest team now. Although rooney only came on after half time.

But the only real first choice player who hasnt started is Rooney…and im afraid if england cant perform without one player then they have no chance of winning anything.

Granted Ronney is an amzing talent BUT one player does not win tournaments.

#434

yeah

i heard that a lot of the french players dont speak off the field etc…think there is a very wierd atmosphere in the french camp.

#435

I will vote for Brazil because it is my country.
But , for now they didn’t go that well.

And, France , they are cursed after they beat us in 98.

#436

Hmm Brazil is not very disappointing . We are used to see them starting slowly then tunring up machines when needed. All what counts is results.

Totally agree with what you said but I wasn’t actually thinking of Rooney. He was taken in the squad and so in my eyes was selected, I was thinking of more like players like Wright-Phillips who never made the squad and were never taken to Germany. Perhaps a controvercial choice since he hasn’t played much this season but no more so than Walcott and personally I would have liked to see Wright-Phillips go. Though that said, thats not to in place of Walcott.

I agree a single player doesn’t win games but I think for the 1st time in a long time the strongest team Sven can put out looks like they have the ability to take on just about any other team in the tournament. Fingers crossed they can go as far as possible.

In the mean time Im just enjoying the football.

#438

On a different note is anyone else enjoying the sudden mass amount of adverts (commercials) with the football theme?

To be expected I know… I just think its interesting how advertisers are fitting the World Cup into just about everything, even when they have absolutly nothing to do with football at all.

Its good to see the CG efforts and expense some conpanies have gone to.
Some are really quite creative!

Come on Ukraine you can undo that 4 goal deficit.

now there’s optimism for ya! LOL

About the commercials, well it’s usual stuff. What I love is companies like Nike taking advantage of the situation and making commercials which are in the World Cup vain, thus selling their own product without paying 50 million for the ‘official sponsor’ tag at the same time:D Bravo.
