Wow. The Americans made a good showing. Able to attack even a man down. As for the ref…well FIFA needs to figure out how to get some consitency; a red card in one game is a “play on” in another game.

Yes, the head to head only kicks in if the teams have the same goal difference. Im not sure if this is a new rule though?

It could be - FIFA have a habit of changing their mind about the rules every 5 minutes. I’d usually expect it to be goal difference before head-to-head as it’s a fairer measurement of the teams performance in the finals to date. Sometimes FIFA want to do it a different way to other organisations, just to be FIFA. Like it gives them some feeling of importance in the game. Whereas in reality, the national and continental bodies are much more powerful. They also dont suffer from the same accusations of corruption and unnacountability which regularly swirl around FIFA.

Bit off at a tangent there but Im not a big fan of the so-called custodians of the world game.

Well in 11 hours We (Australia) play Brazil and im hoping it’s going to be a corker of a match and the yellow and gold (Australia) move on to the next round and give Brasil and other teams something to think about for the rest of the cup.

WHat I dont get is how you can tackle a man from back with a yellow card under your belt and the two fouls by de rossi(?) and mastreoni were absolutely brutal and really dangerous folks. I can see how you hate it being cut down to nine, but the referee really managed a difficult match in a professional and qualitywise noteworthy manner - so hats off to him, too…
