Font that look like Rocks

#1

HI there I am new to Vue
And i was wondering if it is possible to make fonts look like rocks, with that i mean half cut out like mount Rushmore or the Crazy horse in South Dakota.
And if so how would i do that.

First i was just thinking in sinking the letters in the mountain en just slap a rock texture on it.
but that looks much to clean,
So again how could i make them look more like rock.
I hope its a bit clear what i am asking, because i am not a native english speaker.
Sorry

Thanks

Wow very clever answer
Thanks. Doh:D
G i t might be me but thats not what i was looking for.
It does not mater what kind of fonts they are they need to be integrated with the mountains
So they look like they are cut out of it.

At the moment i took a plane and deformed it like a cliff in there i did boolean some letters
so the become one object. after that i imported it in Zbrush and tried to make it look a bit more like rock.
but now i have the model in Vue and i cant get it seamlesly integrated with the other mountains.
So is there a way to do it in Vue, or do you have some other way to do it.

Thanks

You could try posting in the forums at geekatplay.com, if you ask they might do a tutorial for it or they may have one already

Your font, whatever it is, eventually gets turned into a mesh of some kind. You should be able to take that text object and apply a rock material to it, then use a displacement map (perhaps of the same rock image but in gray scale only) or even just a noise map.

This will displace the text to make it look less clean, even rocky looking. It’s a trial and error process but the results should look good.

Then you can boolean that text object into your mountain, either as a subtraction (difference) or as an add (to stick out of the mountain).

I’ve never used Eon software but I know this process is easily done in Maya, or XSI or Modo, etc.

Attached is a quick sample. Took me about 10 minutes. It’s not a good finished render but I think it shows the concept. Again, I don’t know if Vue can do this but it’s a pretty basic concept.

Create your text in Photoshop or alike. Make it black on white.
Create a terrain in Vue. Double click it to edit. Click on “Picture” on the left. You will see your existing terrain and a load picture window. Click on “Load” and browse to your Photoshop file with text. Since your text is now a terrain you can edit it in the terrain editor however you like. Ad a rock texture, and ready!
