Focal length for 360 degree archvis render

#1

I’m working on a bathroom design, and I’m experimenting with 360 degree rendering for the first time. I’m using a panoramic camera in Octane and rendering out to 2500 x 1250 px. I’m viewing the 360 render in the Lizard Q app. What focal length should I use on the camera? Should the camera be in the centre of the room? What height is best? The bathroom is quite small.

Thanks for any tips!

I know all that already - I have successfully made a 360 image, my questions are about cameras in arch viz. As you move around in the image items in the room look quite distorted and fish eye like. Just wondered about the best camera settings to minimise this effect.

For a single 360 frame, the camera should be placed in the center of the space at human eye level (170-180cm height) or whatever height gives the best angles for the entire 360, it’s up to you. Things close to camera are always going to be more distorted, nothing you can really do about that. It’s one of the limitations.

A tight space makes a 360 image very challenging.

*Realtime engine are worth looking at. I’ve been playing around with Twinmotion in Unreal Engine. It’s a great tool to create recorded walkthroughs of Archviz models and the only way to view a space using whatever FOV you like.
