Focal distance...

#1

Hello,

I am having quite a problem with the focal distance from ZBrush and Maya. I sculpted a head in ZBrush, thinking that it will look exactly the same when I will import in Maya, but I was so wrong…When importing in Maya the head is very distorted.

It appears to be from the focal distance of the camera. I did not knew that ZBrush and Maya have different focal distances on their cameras . ZBrush does not even have proper settings for the camera, just FOV.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what can I do to correct this? The only solution that I found was to increase the focal distance in Maya from 35mm (as in the picture below) to +60mm.

The default perspective camera is quite close to the center, so objects will appear rather distorted.
There’s a perspective deformation slider in zbrush that you can use to adjust things in case you modeled with a too narrow FOV.

That’s right, and you can toggle between Perspective and Ortho with the P key. Personally I think even 60mm a bit wide for a head only shot. I would have used at a minimum 85mm.

Thanks for the replies.

Oddforce, you mean the one in the Deformation tab, right? Not the change FOV in the Draw tab. I’ve tried using the perspective deformation, but sadly it gives me weird results, if I try to add or change a value it always gives the same result, which is exaggerated.

Dillster, it’s not only the head, I also have the body, so I am not sure…
