Fluids issue

#1

Hey guys, I normally dont post on here as I dont want to waste peoples time with problems but this is essentially the only software specific forum aside from autodesks where I can get quick informed replies. Anyways I’ve been dabbling in fluids and and slowly I think Im getting the hang of it but I always hit a brick wall and Im left clueless. basically whenever my base mesh gets over 90/100 after ive established what I want it to look like and i want better quality, the simulation pretty much stops or stutters jumping 20/30 frames each time and it just looks like little bobbles of clouds. I thought that this was just me inputting all the settings wrong so i downloaded a few help/reference files posted in this forum and all of them do the same thing. is this a software thing or is it my pc?

atm these are my specs, its not great but it handles most things fine

mobo: Asus p8z77 v pro
ram:corsair dominator 2x4 at 1648mhz(8gb, soon to be 24 or 32)
OS hdd: Samsung ssd
scratch hdd: ocz sdd
storage hdd: seagate or something
cpu: 3770k @ 4.2ghz
gpu: asus nvidia 760 2gb

I have tried disabling the onboard igpu and making sure maya was using the gfx card but that made no difference. ram usage during sim was on avg 3/4gb out of 8.

I may get some heat about forum sections but i felt this was more a software question than a hardware one.

I look forward to your responses, thanks guys! +++

This may be a really simple idea, but have you checked your playback speed is set to play every frame?

that seems to have done the trick but I think something I changed in the bios also made a difference but i honestly dont understand why :S . actually simulates the fluids at a decent res now. Sorry for wasting anyones time, thanks for all the help. thanks guys! ++
