I have a project coming up that will have a lot of airplanes. So I have been looking at ways of getting some impressive volumetric clouds. My options are. . . Vue6. (a little expensive and odd. Z is up!?!) Lightwave’s Hypervoxels. (Have yet to see a nice looking cloud.) Terragen 2 (Wow. . . wish it was out.) And Messiah.
I happen to have Messiah.
So. . . my first test.

Meh. I mean. . . its ok. Looks cloud like. But the ones in Terragen look so “deep” and I can tell that they are casting shadows onto themselves. I know I won’t have that option currently in Messiah but. . . damn. Take a look.
Then I tried something a little fancier.
The one in the background has This “Shading …sub” checkbox on. Kind of gives it a little more “oomph”. The one in the front is nice but has no detail.
I’m rendering another version now with what I hope are some better settings. It would be cool if I could have some of you play with it. Maybe you can find some fancier knobs and switches or know about techniques I don’t.
Thanks.
