Title: Flax - Sh*t in Space
Name: Gianpietro Fabre
Ive been asked by Bacon, a Production company based in Oslo, to take part in this little gem of a film for Flax, the Norwegian Lottery. My job was to upgrade/kitbash an old model of the MIR from Turbosquid and transform it into a modern looking spaceship. The model itself was in good shape, but the textures required a complete rework. I took care of the UV, changing from 2 UDIM to 46, dividing each UDIM by material where possible. Then I took care of the textures in Substance Painter. Time constraint was very short, as I had to finish the whole ship in 8/10 days. The exterior shots in the film are full CG, while all the interiors are a set. Rendered by Bacon in Redshift.
After the film was released I spent some time playing around with Marmoset Toolbag, to test a heavy asset (1.4 million polygons and 46 UDIMs x5 maps). Ive to admit I was blown away by the quality I could easily achieve in Marmoset. A part from the background plate and some minimal color correction, these are plain renders!
