How do you prevent the leaves on a tree from looking flat?

Render as far away as possible, lol. Most of Vue’s tree’s were designed for ecosystem, meaning they are not meant for close-ups. Even the HD trees can be difficult to produce a realistic close up. The best chance you have is to populate a tree with a plant species designed to look like the proper folaige. I’ve created a few training vids for this, will more intensive training on the subject coming soon. There are other posts about this aswell.

The best way to populate is to force regular alignment of instance and max out the eco density, sometimes up to 2000% Using the environment tab with the angle settings will produce very realistic results.

There are also a few tricks you can do with bump maps.

The best bump maps are made with 16-bit grayscale png files, using Bi-linear image interpolation, to avoid pixelation.
