flamingo help

#1

Hello, i am new to using a forum, so please bear with me.

I have been using rhino for the past three months. I use it primarily for architecture. Modeling spaces and custom made steel furniture. Recently i tried to start rendering some of the projects. I have gotten okay results but i would like to perfect that. I only have access to flamingo. I tried using some of the flamingo materials but they look very fake, so i opted to just using solid colors to represent my materials. I also had trouble trying to map the wood in the right direction but didnt know how to do it, (besides the wood does not look like wood) I would like to know if there is another material library that i can use that has better material, especially wood and steel? Also, do you have any tips on setting up lights for interior renderings. I have read a lot of tips but they are mainly for lighting an object nothing on interior shots. Thanks.

You can use the material library from Accustudio, it works perfectly within Flamingo.

Thank you. This one is a lot better. Although not all the materials show up. I downloaded the library and the bitmaps. Am i missing something else?

This is one of my previous renderings. I feel like it is a bit dark. I used the photometric renderer with the sun on and photometric set to interior and a spotlight. Any tips on how to light it??

The instructions for loading the materials state that you can put them anywhere you like and then specify the path to the new materials using the options shown below in the image. But I must admit that this has never worked for me in Rhino 3.0, possibly this will in Rhino 4.0. I have always placed the new libraries in the folder with the original Flamingo materials, this has always worked well for me. Possibly I am just weird.

Your specifc questions on rendering I cannot help you with. I do not use those options at all, I have only used the Flamingo Raytrace renderer. Any photometric work is done in other packages based on corporate standards. I can suggest you contact GregerE over at the Renderosity web site (www.renderosity.com), he has the best use of Flamingo that I know of, or you can ask for assistance on the Flamingo support page.
