First dry run of the new rig

#1

Here’s a little test animation I did today to work out what works and what doesn’t in my new rig. Only need to rig the face/head and sort out some horrific deformation and then it’ll be all yours (well, sort of.) The rig features some very exciting tricks pioneered in messiah by Marek Schneider and Christopher Lutz. Not too much of that on display right here, but it’s a joy to animate.

And a little quick vid showing it in use:

Very exciting stuff. I love this way of working. It feels so natural.

You know! There is no way this rig can fail when it is all done. We as digital artist often think that if we just do that and that and are provided by a plugin like this and that it will all be nice, well in this rig I can only congratulate you to have done a major step back in time and thought about a really easy rig in stop motion. By doing so, thinking of the little stickman and go from there again you will be able to make a fantastic rig. This rig will be the heart of future animations from us, and that is so incredible exciting.

When I painted the little stick figure for you I had in mind that the norwegian animator(stop motion) Ivo caprino made like 8 hours of good animated stuff at a time where he was pionering the animation scene. With this rig and messiah as platform you are making us able to animate and make good storys instead of making good rigs. I for one can not cope with all the technical stuff of a rig so this is jost most joyful, that is why I wanted you to create a better rig for us in the first place!

Wegg: Very exciting stuff. I love this way of working. It feels so natural.

Funny you post that, as me and Ulven discussed the rig before he started on it(he has taken it even further than we discussed, but maybe we also need to go back some and change some of it) and the point from me where simple, I must be able to pose, then stretch or detail animate parts, and the rig he is now making does this. The only natural way in my mind. And without sitting in LW with a lame proxy model with no details or selecting the wrong bone all the time and so on… My original thought where to get a rig where I am free in 3d space, no wrong coordinates or only ik or no ik or only this and that. It should be like clay but with power features.

I do not believe the power of this superfast rig. Becuse it is fast, in my mind no slowdowns inside messiah… oooohhhhhh… so nice! Just what I am after!

Yours PAL :bounce:

Care to share a Project File? This rig looks so dreamy. We could all learn a lot from it.

Get it while it’s hot!
