First Character Advice

#1

Hey everyone

This is m first organic character made with maya.
I’ve been doing 3d for a year and a half and made this character in about the week.

I know it’s not the best but I would like for someone to tell me what to work on first, what area to concentrate the most and any other critiques you might have

I can relate to doing something for the first time, especially an organic figure. I’ve been working on my first organic creation ( a disco girl sculpt) for 2-3 weeks now and I just can’t get the anatomy right. It’s even more bothersome if you’re going off reference. Anyway, I’m not sure if you’re going off reference or you’re just letting the creative juices flow, but it looks like you’re going in the right direction to me. Maybe reduce the specular just a bit, it’s a bit shiny, unless it’s suppose to be a toy or something. If you want to go to that next level though, try to refine your character in Zbrush or Mudbox. I heard you can sculpt in blender as well, but I’ve never used blender before so don’t quote me on that.

Mudbox might be a better option though, since you can get the free student version or trial.

Anyway, really cool looking character.

Your character looks really good. The only things I would change is the suits specular as previously suggested and change his skin to be a little transparent with some detail. Kind of like Bob from Monsters vs. Aliens.

Thanks a lot guys. I see how the specular might be too much. As for the skin I would know where to start with it to make it look like Bob… but I would like to make it like that

I’m not very good with texturing but how I would do the skin is in the mia_material_x_passes material there’s an option for Advanced Reflection and Refraction. If you enable that an mess around with the Max Distance and Color At Max Distance you can create a semi-transparent skin like Bob. As for the random spots, if you wanted those too, you could probably just use an alpha on the color.
