Fine particles and Shake

#1

I have an explosion/swirl of very fine particles
(point size=1) over a life background of a white
liquid (like milk). When I composite the shot in Shake
(using a simple over operation) I am losing quite a
bit of my particles in the final comp.

I know I got this working a while a go, but I cant
remember how. Can anyone tell me how to handle this in
Shake?

#2

how are the particles being matted ?
are the particles the same color/shade as the background ?
what format did you save the particle images in ?

#3

//how are the particles being matted ?
Matte is created by the hardware renderer (not the HW render buffer). They show up correctly.

//are the particles the same color/shade as the background ?
No. Particles are blue and yelllow. BG is milk

//what format did you save the particle images in ?
.iff

Is your particle-material premultiplied or not?
If not activate the preMultiply button in the over node.
