Fill a Layer with a single colour?

I am trying to fill a selection with a single colour. I have selected some parts of an image and pasted it into a new documents layer. I want the selection in the layer to be a single uniform colour - any ways of doing this? thanks

Select your color, then edit->fill wih foreground/background color. Or the bucket tool.
I’d rather create a new solid layer(see the small icons at the bottom of the Layer tab) using the selection as a mask, it’s more convinient when you have to edit the color afterwards.

the simplest way to:

  1. fill with foreground color >>> Alt + backspace
  2. fill with background color >>> Crtl + backspace
