Figure Drawing Sketches

Hi Everyone, I’m abit new with posting so please forgive any given mistake I might make :hmm:
I’ve been practicing figure drawing quite a while, but finally bought a book to do it properly (Dynamic Figure Drawing by Burne Hograth) I nearly only sketch and don’t complete a drawing (they don’t seem good enough yet) I use no reference, but I still see a looong road ahead so it’d be really great to get some feedback on the work I’ve posted here. I want to attend a University in the UK in about a half a year so I’d like to polish up my work as much as possible. :thumbsup:
I’d really be happy to get any C&C

No worries, you are welcome to create your own thread ~ just bear in mind that we have threads which will fit almost any category of Drawing or Painting you might have, so it’s worthwhile to look around before creating new threads.

However, I think since you are embarking on an ‘artistic journey’ and may want to document that process, creating your own thread is a perfectly fine thing to do. :slight_smile:

I really like your drawings so far, and particularly the first page of drawings ~ these are nice, loose studies which capture the spirit if not the letter of Hogarth’s drawings. How many copies do you do per day, week, or month? I think the key when you are starting out is to do as many drawings as is possible. Keep practicing, and you will inevitably get better.

Hi Rebeccak, thanks alot for the feedback. I draw atleast every third day, I’m normally do 4 pages a day but I think I’ll double it. Till now it’s a big thick folder full of sketches - I just got a new one yesterday = )
I’d have another question: Once I feel that my figures have a certain, lets say, quality. I’ll step over to clothing them. Then I thought of practicing vehicles and enviorments - I know it’s still far ahead but I’m not exactly sure what field of work I’d be doing after all of this. (Which I can’t wait for :smiley: ) Because I have the impression if I’m interested in game design I’d only be doing characters from front and side - would all the foreshortening be for nothing? I know my quality of drawing is nowwhere near enough for any of this but at a point I’ll be there = ) It’s just to inform myself in advance.

Thanks for telling us about yourself! It’s always interesting to know a bit about peoples’ bkgrds and work habits. :slight_smile:

I would say you have a good plan for learning a great variety of things. Firstly, let me say that foreshortening will be important in almost anything that you do ~ as it is an inherent part of drawing.

Having said that, we do have a couple of threads related to Orthographic Drawings which you should definitely check out:
